Right off 1788, about 7 miles south of 20. I’ve seen them around Big Spring and Barnhart. This is the first I’ve seen them near Midland. Lots of prairie dogs in that little green spot, too.

I guess they migrated West a little bit. I used to see them on 349 South of Midland for years when headed to Rankin but hadn’t seen them the last 2-3 years. Good to know they are still around.

Love me some speed goats. The Covered S on Hwy 84 between Snyder and Post has a small herd.

Saw some between Big Lake and Barnhart a few years ago, are they legal to shoot? Had one walk up close enough to hit with a rock one day while quail hunting.

In TX, tags are by biologist recommendations

A buddy of mine's dad caught a couple napping in the shade of his blind a few years ago, not too far from there.

There are some NW of Throckmorton. I only saw one but a friend said there are some. He said stocked by TPWD in 70s if I remember correctly. It shocked me when I saw it cause I had no idea.

Saw 7 of them off of 380 a little west of Throckmorton quite a few years ago and on one of the hunting programs a few years later they were hunting pronghorn in that area. Said the state issues the LO none to 2 or 3 tags for bucks a year, depending on survey.

They sure can be, the meat was better on them than the elk I killed in Montana but I did shoot them when they were in alfalfa field so they had been eating good groceries.

This makes me wonder about this particular animal's backstory.

The pronghorn's I've been around have been extremely shy and flighty with the exception of one. There was one that for a short period of time hung out with my uncle's cattle. I suppose it had gotten separated from its herd, and since there were no others in the immediate area, it adopted the cows. It would hang with them when they were being fed though it kept its distance. Not sure what happened to her. She may have just wondered off, but it was interesting to see.

I kind of wonder if the pronghorn in your picture was either desperately lonely or raised by humans.

they are naturally really curious especially if they havent been hunted/chased hard. Ive had then walk to within 40 yards of me when I was welding corner posts up, etc

I used to see a small group of them between Midland and the airport, South side of the Interstate routinely. I guess with all of the construction they moved off somewhere else.

We hunted them in Wyoming. I could have killed 90% of the ones we saw with a scoped .22lr.

They were not overly flighty or wary. They did have a comfort zone but I got within 40 yards several times

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

There's a few spots around Midland I have seen them. Don't see them all the time, but a few spots I always check when I'm driving by those areas.

I was working a well just south of I-20 between Midland and Odessa a couple years ago and there was an antelope between us and the interstate. Few spots off of 349 south of town and off of 1788 that I have seen quite a few as well.

I was working on a rig on the south side of FM 1787 and could look across 1787 to the north side and watch them on that ranch.... Just east of 1788 about 1/2 a mile.

Actively shooting prairie dogs, north of Dlahart. Almost daily, one would close in on us, often within less than 100 yards. Not the same one every day, of course. We covered quite a bit of ground, and would always see pronghorn wherever we went.

I thought I heard TPWD were also doing transplants from the Panhandle to the West? Or was that just mule deer, or both? Neither?
