Little bit of a fish tailing head wind, or it would have been better.

They've learned how to make a pretty good barrel, haven't they? And to think how big a gamble it was once upon a time when buying a Ruger. Back in those days some of them were real dogs.

It's a new day.

I think they have made good barrels for a long time. The 77s just had poor triggers and poor bedding for many years. A trigger and bedding job usually made them very accurate. The Americans don’t have those issues and the recent Hawkeyes I’ve bought have good triggers out of the box.

You would like one of those in 338 Lapua. First time shooting it we took it to a mile within the first 40 rounds.

That's stout.

If I didn't love my CTR, the RPR is such an obvious choice for long range performance at a moderate budget point.

The Tikka cycles smoother and has a better trigger. But once you get past that, this is pretty impressive.

There was a time they didn't make barrels, they bought them. Some were Douglas (good), some were Wilson (a crapshoot).

They've hammer forged their own barrels for several decades now. I've only owned one brand new Ruger centerfire rifle, bought around 1998 and it shot okay. Standard 10-22 barrels never impressed me but we always shot high velocity rimfire ammo for killing jackrabbits...but the hammer forged 10-22T barrels can be something else (they seem to make a bad one now and then, though).

I have also seen Ruger American rifles shoot really, really well the last three years.

I had one of those 77s in 7X57 with a bad barrel. Gosh, this had to have been 40 years ago.
Most of the Rugers I have had since have been fine, and the American Predator I now shoot in 6.5 Grendel is wonderfully accurate. But the Ruger RPR kicks a whole lot of butts!

It's nice to see that Ruger keeps stepping up their game. I wish some of the other American companies could have done the same. All of the Ruger stuff I have looked at lately has good fit and finish and flat out shoot.

I love my Ruger M77 Mk.II in 6.5x55mm. Thing shoots everything good. I really don't know why I handload for it as it shoots Winchester PowerPoints almost as good.

Because you cannot completely trust mass production ammo.

I'm to the point that I don't even want to run mass production ammo in my pistols. If I didn't make it, I don't trust it.
