I have an American Flag that is tattered and torn, she has been flown for many years at my house and now she needs to be retired. Are there and Scout troops, Explores, VFW Post or any other organizations that would like to have my flag that will conduct a proper retirement ceremony? If so, send me a note and I will send you the flag.

I am sure there are many, however you can properly retire it yourself very easily.
Step 1 - build a fire Step 2 - place flag in fire, recite the pledge of allegiance Step 3 - bury the ashes

Contact your local Boy Scout troops. They will do it. When I was a Scout, we did the proper flag retirement procedures all the time. I think the VFW does it also.

If none of that is close to you, check Ace Hardware. My local Ace has a drop off and they claim they dispose of them properly.

I was surprised as all that black smoke was billowing out of the fire, but nobody seemed to take issue with it.

I had to write a paper on Flag Duty when I was in ROTC at SFA. From what I remember researching in the US Flag Code the procedure is as follows:
Cut or tear the flag where the blue field meets the stripes along the long axis of the flag the length of the flag. Cut or tear the remaining part where the blue field meets the stripes along the shorter axis. You now have three pieces of cloth. Dispose of as you wish. Burning is acceptable and often considered most respectful.
Done this a few times.

When we voted the other day at the fire station I noticed they had a stack of them all folded up to be retired. There was a sign saying you could drop them off there.
