Seems like I see and hear a lot of comments about how IPAs, stouts, or really anything other than a light beer from one of the big boys is considered 'hipster' beer.

I like all kinds of beer......really except for the big three. They all taste like water to me.

I understand the connotations involved with weird stuff flavored like grapefruit, pickles, etc. - I've never understood that kind of thing. But I don't really see the connection with darker, more bitter, higher alcohol content beers with hipsters. Maybe because some of it is expensive?

Personally, I'd much rather have a couple beers that actually taste like beer, than 9 or 10 Miller lites that taste like water that's had a slice of Wonderbread soaking in it overnight. Seems like a marketing gimmick to think that light beers are actually what 'men drink', when they were probably created to save women's waistlines....

I assume I'm in the minority here. I'm also not a 'drink beer all day' guy. I get the appeal of having a less filling beer if that's the goal.

I drink and like both. I really enjoy the high octane Voodoo Ranger IPA’s, when I’m wanting to sip I enjoy a dark stout, then sometimes when working in the yard or on a project or smoking meats I like to drink for a while so lite beer it is, Miller to be exact.

This one by far is my favorite stout I’ve ever tried. Lakewood Temptress

I pretty much like all beer, but the light beers are just boring, can’t tell you the last time I had one.

Nobody actually likes an ipa. Just drink to be different.

I’m a stout guy myself. I’d rather drink a mich ultra than an ipa. Yes I’ve tried plenty

The fact that people take pictures of their ipas…. Kinda makes the point. It’s a beverage not a photo opp

Big fan of stouts, I've been into them since 2014. Had a rather large cellar of stouts until Covid hit, my wife and I did a number on them.

It’s the old “I don’t like it so no one else does either” argument.

I did that with Axis IPA by Real Co. They were on sale for a dollar one day and I took 6 to my brother's house for a crawfish boil. They are only 7% but the cans are 20oz so it was like drinking 16 Miller Lites. sleep2

Yea I woke up the next morning with a gnarly gash on my arm and both elbows felt like I had fallen on something hard. Didn't remember falling, but went to the garage and sure enough there was blood on the garage floor. Guess I was trying to get another beer out of my beer fridge and fell backwards rofl I don't remember any of it.

There are a ton of great beer styles other than IPAs too.
Going down to our friends bar in a bit for a few Alt beers, Kolsch , maybe a lager and RyePA for the spouse. He makes a nice honey amber too.
He also has I think 3 IPAs on tap he makes.
As he says "no fizzy corn water in my beers".
Not many hipsters hang out there but we see a couple now and again.

I can't do the 7-9% beers, I'll keep it at 5.5 % max and drink a few more.

It's nice to get a beer that comes right from the brewhouse, he cans singles too for take home.

Damn, I really should have proof read that one. I was meaning the concrete garage floor. Elbows weren't scraped up, just a large gash on the right one. Both elbows hurt like when you hit them by accident on something.

Hope that clears it up for ya buddy soap

Spend some time in Belgium and Germany, particularly Belgium. Not considered hipster and really good old quality brews.

I used to really like IPAs then maybe 10 years ago my taste for them changed. Don't care for them now.

Belgian and German beers are my favorite by far. Real pilsners, bocks, trips/quads

I’m not into IPA’s at all, mainly because they taste like [censored]

Now, porters, stouts, etc… wife and I are BIG fans. We cellar a bunch and typically sit on them for 3-5 years. They can get pricey, but we get a lot that are 11-20% alcohol. So for a “beer” it’s pricey, but hits harder than wine…so not that bad. I’ll have to see what all we have in there now. We have a closet we set and forget them in
