My dad ordered a new Sierra 1500 all the way back in 2014 that has towed a 12K pound fifth wheel about 80% of its 80K miles since. It has a 3.73 rear gear (9 3/4" ring gear, same a Dana 60 in size), two OEM transmission coolers, an oil cooler, factory two bar extendable tow mirrors, and the original 6.2L gas engine that makes 420 HP and 480 TQ. He averages 8-9 MPG on flat ground at 60 MPH. GM radiators have been oversized since the new 1999's came out. You are stuck in 1987.


Semis have drums brakes. Are drum brakes unsafe? The brakes on the truck are used to stop the truck. The brakes on the trailer are used to stop the trailer. Simple concept. Use tow/haul mode and up/down buttons on the shifter on grades.

Dad also has TPMS for the trailer added on (factory GMC option now) and a trailer rearview camera added (also an OEM option now).

FWIW - I think I said I didn't like it earlier but it would likely grow on me...that truck is badass! The lack of chrome helps it immensely and the wheel and tire package is a big help too....I'm a big fan. The only thing I'd change is a 18" wheel or a taller tire, needs more sidewall.

One thing I was consistent about...those wheels are hideous and someone should lose their job over them. Look how much better TexFlip's truck pics looks and that's why.

Yea Flips looks like it has a 2-4” lift and better tires and wheels. I can’t stand any factory wheels. I change them the day I buy a vehicle.
