Just before Memorial day I sent in my renewal. Got it a week or so ago.

I took the class and sent them my paperwork back in early March. Over the past weekend, I sent them an email asking why the hold up. I checked the website on Tuesday and surprise, surprise, they approved my application.

Now I'm just waiting on it to arrive in the mail. If the US Postal Service is anything like the Texas DPS, it could many more weeks before I have it in my hand. Of course this assumes it doesn't take the DPS another six months to mail it.

I have a CHL for NY State and Pennsylvannia--when I moved here 2 years ago they said CHL's are not transferable--you have to take the class and do the whole application process

I was afraid of that, I read that they recognize az when traveling but I could not find anything on new residency.

As long as you have your Arizona CHL, it is good in Texas. If you can renew it, you will not need a Texas CHL. Both States have a reciprocity agreement.

Like my other post. If you currently have one of the above or if you can renew one of them they will allow you to carry in Texas following Texas CHL laws.

NY is not reciprical, but is a unilateral State. You can't carry in New York on a Texas CHL, but you can carry in Texas on a New York CHL.

Pennsylvania and Texas have reciprocity. Keep you Pennsylvania CHL renewed and you will not need a Texas CHL.

Note, one relying on an out of State CHL or similar will need to keep a check on current CHL laws in the event of any changes. I carry in Texas on a Florida Concealed Weapons Permit.
