If the truck discussion is back again, why not chainsaws again. I laughed when the wife wanted a battery powered chainsaw, being that I’m a man, and men have ‘real’ chainsaws. Well, I may have softened in my stance, because I do reach for her chainsaw quite often. The little Stihl with the 12” bar cuts like a demon. During the most recent rain and windstorm, a huge limb fell out of a monster old Oak in the yard/pasture. When I found it the other morning, I had the little Stihl with me, and a downed oak limb is potential firewood. I cut up a lot of that limb, which was 12” and thicker at the big end. When the battery got low, I went for my Stihl 251 and finished up the cutting.
The point is that the battery chainsaw really is a useful and valuable tool. I could use another battery I suppose. The neighbor borrowed the wife’s little chainsaw, hated to give it back, and bought a Ryobi.
I wonder who really makes the best one. I suppose that cutting speed and battery life are what we’d measure by. I have some Milwaukee Fuel tools, and the battery holds charge for a long time, so maybe it would be a contender.

I have one of the Ryobi and it actually does really well. 5-6" round is about all it'll do though. It'll cut larger but it takes a while and isn't fun lol.

The best battery powered tools are Milwaukee Fuel.
I use them 20 days a month. They are the best I have ever had.
When we were building the house, my Plumber and Electrician/HVAC subs all had Milwaukee Fuel. That was 12 people, total. The Plumber has been in business 30 years. The Electrician/HVAC guy has been in business 40 years. They all told me they have owned every brand of cordless tools over the years, and Milwaukee Fuel has been the best they've ever had.

Yea, I'd probably buy something else if I was using it non-stop everyday, but for me it works. We've cut up a BUNCH of trees for crappie spots and it hasn't missed a beat.

Mine seams to go through chains a lot, stretching, but then again, I'm cutting in the dirt a lot. Best thing I like is it's light weight so I can cut one-handed as necessary.

Yea it weights almost nothing until you put the battery in it, but it is still light. The battery life is great too. I can work for several hours strait on a single battery and still have a bar or two left when done.

If I were buying new, I'd probably lean to the Fuel. I have a 16" Echo (I have other Echo equipment) and am happy with it; my hand tools are all DeWalt, so any additional saw would likely match those batteries.

I was about to buy something other than Ridgid because they hadn’t jumped on the chainsaw bandwagon and just use one of the specialty clips to attach it. Then Ridgid dropped their line of yard tools so that’s what I’m going to buy, at least the chainsaw and blower.

I’ve got the Makita…it’s impressed me thus far. I’m not a lumberjack though.

Bought the Ryobi lawnmower and added the chainsaw. Selling the Husqvarna gasser ASAP. I just don't need a serious chainsaw, and I am amazed at how well the battery-ops run for limited duty -- 8-10-inch mulberry. Brother talked to a tree guy recently and he said they are phasing out the gassers.

I've cut hundreds of cedar trees with a 10" Ryobi, It's not fast but does the job. Only thing I don't like is the manual oiler keeps drooling when not in use. When I'm done I have to drain the oiler reservoir back into the oil can.

I watched both videos that Z71 posted. Looks like Dewalt is a great pick, as is Echo. Milwaukee didn’t do as well as I expected, nor did Stihl, but both would certainly be acceptable. And I think that most of us would lean toward whatever chainsaw used the batteries we have already.

I have 7 ir 8 batteries and all the battery powered stuff already. J.G. is right, all the guys on my job site used Milwaukee. I did not ask why.

I went with a Makita this last time and have been real happy with it. I have used it quite a bit already widening a forest road on my east texas lease, but before I ever used it I made some changes. I removed the 16 inch bar and chain which was .43 in gauge and replaced it with an Oregon 14 inch .50 in gauge bar, chain, and cover. Because the main purpose for a new battery chainsaw was to carry in my truck, I wanted one that did not leak bar oil. This one has not leaked a drop. I can't compare to the other new brands. My old one was a Ryobi and not near as good as this makita, but the Ryobi I had was a very old model, so that was to be expected.

I bought an EGO blower 5 or 6 years ago and was impressed with it, then bought their multi-tool with a hedge trimmer. I live on a lake and have a few wooded lots we cut trails through. The hedge trimmer has been a beast cutting through vines and underbrush. Around 3 years ago, I bought the 16" EGO chainsaw. It had issues, so I returned it. Then about 6 months later, I read an article about assembly problems with the original EGO chainsaws, so decided to give it another try. I've been using the new one two years or so, and it's been a solid chainsaw.

I have found that I need to drain the gas when I finish cutting. Then start the saw and let it run out of gas.
