My son is a senior electrical engineering student at Texas A&M. He is asking me about the ice storm of 2000 (incidentally he was 3 weeks old when it hit). He interned with Bluebonnet Electric Co-Op and now has a unique perspective on our power grid. He is also currently studying traditional power grids.
If you were employed with any electric company or had anything to do with our power grid during the 2000 ice storm... please reply (with as detailed an account as you are able) and tell us your personal experience. Thanks in advance!!

I have nothing to add here, but I hope others do. I will keep an eye out.

In the parking lot of my office, I made an anatomically correct ice woman that day. I was scolded for doing it. I’m sure that’s not the type of information you’re looking for, but when you posted it that’s what popped into my head.

Friend of mines folks that live near where I live now were out of power for almost 2 weeks on Grayson Collin co-op. Was a bad storm up this way.

I have a buddy that's an engineer at the combined cycle plant out in Granbury. I think he's old enough to have been in the industry during the 2000 ice storm and I'll ask him if he can write something up that I can post on here.

I remember that storm well and how much fun I had driving around at 4:00 in the morning on January 1st. I pulled off a hat trick New Year's Eve and was completely full of myself and happy.
