I got a question for you guys and gals. First year on a lease, you have the lease to yourself. The owner is a cool guy, you know he has 15 cows, 14 cows and 1 bull. The owner's bull is a big puppy.

Now the question. You're out hunting by yourself, you come across a bull you've never seen. You don't know if the owner got a new bull. You're unsure if it's the owner's new bull. He comes up while you're hunting wanting to stomp you into the ground. You shoot a few warning shots, bull finally walks away. You go back to your vehicle and call the owner asking when he got a new bull. He says no I don't have a new bull then ask if the animal is a white bull.I tell him yes. Come to find out this bull is his neighbor's bull. The owner tells you to shoot it because this bull has injured his bull. The owner of the lease and the bull owner have been going back and forth over this issue with no solution.

My question is would you shoot the bull, since the bull already dicated that you can't hunt when he is there unless you want to become a red mud puddle? The lease owner has already told you to shoot the animal. What would you do?

Wow. Interesting scenario...

The bull is technically trespassing.

The lease landowner said to shoot it.

You're paying to hunt the property.

You can't hunt comfortably with the white bull on the property.

Someone's gotta go.

Shoot it.

shocked shocked shocked

NO. Tell the owner if he wants to go to jail, he can shoot it!

Exactly right. It's not worth going to jail over.

DONT SHOOT!

If that bull really did injure the owners Bull then I would think he would have a legal right to shoot the Bull, but you DO NOT have that right! I think in this situation the land owner would have every right to protect his bull and kill the tresspassing bull! But thats just my opinion!

I wouldn't shoot it. I would tell the guy you're leasing from that I had not seen it again. Too many legal issues going on there.

Dont shoot- just flat out the wrong thing to do and if the owner of the bull wants to he can come after you for the cost of replacing that bull.

If animals are leaving property you have to make a "resonable attempt to notify owner of said animal for retrieval" the best way is like stated to call the sheriff.

Do however tell the sheriff that the bull is very aggressive and would only leave after several warning shots; having this documented will keep you out of trouble should it be needed to kill this bull should it pose a threat to you or some one else. Other wise the bulls owner will say you shot it out of spite.

Secondly notify the sheriff that you are paying to hunt and the bull is interfering with that....after all you are leaseing the land, chances are the sheriff will bring this up to the bulls owner and once again its good to document should it be needed to shoot it in self defense.

Technically the bull is NOT tresspassing as fences in the state of Texas are actually regarded as a means of keeping animals in rather than a way of keeping them out.....after all thats how the range wars started over fencing out cattle from free grazing.

after all my parents hit a black angus on the road one time(at night) and tore their truck all to pieces ....they had to fix the truck the cattles owner was not at fault.

hope this wasnt to long winded but there are legal issues with live stock and mostimportantly YOU have a legal stake in this because you have paid money for land use.....

and before telling you to shoot a bull and possibly put you in legal danger you might ask the land owner if he has his LEASEING PERMIT from the state that allows him to lease hunting land other wise the sheriff/Warden may have to talk to him also!

just some things to think about before a can of worms gets opened

I wouldn't shoot someone's bull, BUT, I wouldn't allow it to worry me when I'm out and about on the property.

I guess my question is this: If that Bull was injuring my Bull and this has been a on going problem (and it sounds like this has been) then wouldnt I have the right to protect my property (my Bull) with deadly force?

I think it would be easier to say it was attacking you, but you still may have to pay for the bull.

This is why God created ranch hand bumpers and poly ropes... Bull etiquette

dont shoot it!!! unless it was attacking u.... but im pretty sure u could get away from a bull, they usually dont get to dedicated in there attacks... now are u sure it was comin to stomp u, or did it think u were going to give it some cubes, ive seen a lot of people that havent been around cattle get scared of something that really wasnt showin any signs of being agitated!

It would be definitely NO,NO answer. It seems to be illegal on doing that. You may ask the owner to shoot it himself rather than you. You may call on the sheriff also.

#9 shot at 50 yards in the hind quarter will send him home and not to the meat locker. Saves you a trip to the county court house too.
