My partner fashioned a hog trap out of hog panels, bailing wire, tee posts and some angle iron for the game. Well, thus far we have caught 11 hogs, but the bailing wire is not the way to go to hold the panels together.

He called me just a bit ago. We had ten in the trap. He goes down to shoot them and at the first shot they go ballistic. Banging into the panels so hard that they eventually broke the bailing wire at the bottom and all but two got away.

We are thinking of buying D rings to hold the panels together. We want it so we can move the trap easily. Do you guys know of a better way. We really thought the bailing wire would hold up. We had it about every ten inches holding the panels together....still, they broke it.

Thanks for the ideas on here. I baited the trap with corn sitting in three quarts of fruity gatorade with raspberry koolaid scattered around. Seemed to have worked.

He said all that we had were in the 75lbs range. Gonna try again. Would you guys suggest moving the trap, or just rebait and go again?

How about using hose clamps to hold the panels to the "T" post. They would be strong and could easily be taken off if you wanted to disassemble it.

just get some regular slick wire and wire it in a few spots, it should be fine!

I highly recommend using wire rope clips - cost more than the wire approach, but they work great. They are like a U-bolt with a saddle that fits over the panel wire. Intended to fasten cable together. All different sizes at tractor supply. Like you, my early attempts at connecting hog panels with tie wire were weak, but these clips with a foot or so of overlap are stout.

I don't seem to have that problem on my big round trap. Use T-post clips starting at the very bottom and every other wire on the way up. Use the tie wire that holds bundles of panels together. DON"T be skimpy on tying. PERIOD!!!!!

Double your bailing wire. Just cut it twice as long and double it. No hog I've ever seen would be able to break it...

T-posts on outside.. Go to Atwoods or Tractor supply and look around where the bundles of panels are. Tie wire will probably be scattered around the vacinity. DON"T be skimpy on tying..... An extra hour or 2 is worth it.. How far from Tyler are you??

Weave the pannels together with 12 ga wire. It is ceiling grid hanging wire. Comes in 12ft staight pc. Look in phone book for nearest drywall supply house. It works well.
