I am wanting to plan a leisurely trip to the Burnet and Fredericksburg area this spring. Since I am from the Panhandle, the timing of our blooms are significantly different. About when does the bloom peak? I plan on hitting the Pacific War museum, a few wine tastings and the Wildflower farm east of Fredericksburg. What other site seeing things do you guys and girls recommend?

Burnet is my home town ... they have a large bluebonnet festival in early April. I suspect the old train will bring hundreds (maybe thousands) of people from Austin that weekend with all sorts of attractions (demolition derby, food vendors, carnival, classic car show, live music, etc.). Depending on the year, winter weather & rainfall, the bluebonnets can start to pop from mid March thru late April.

Normal years they are starting to look good around the opening weekend of turkey season. I would say peak is the first 2 weeks of April. Pic is my yard in NTX April 17th. Figure a week earlier in the hill country. [Linked Image]

My wife and I drove "the loop" north and east of Fredericksburg 2 years ago and it was really pretty.

Went last year, and don't think we saw the first flower..........

They make their way north, and I haven't seen much down south. At all depends on temperature, and rainfall. ...

Thanks guys, my wife and I drove the loop about 6 years ago. We were a couple of weeks late, but it was still pretty. I thought I would make a run down that way a little earlier this time. I want to spend more time in the WWII museum too.

Ya the first 2 weeks of April or so should be on point. Our BB Fest is April 14th this year and they start doing bus tours and whatnot a couple/few weeks before that. I typically have a nice field of them next to my office and go our and look at germination rates. I haven't gone to look this year yet. I'll try and go and look in the next day or two. Like S.A. hunter mentioned it's about temperature and moisture. Been pretty dry and pretty warm overall which should account for a lower germ rate. But we shall see.

If you are a history nut like me, you may plan for a lot of time at the Nimitz museum/pacific war museum. When I went, paid admission was good for 24 hours so I did five hours the first day then went back the next morning. Spent nine hours there and could’ve spent more had I not felt rushed by the better half. Was also lucky in I got to see a few ww2 vets and speak with them out front.

Wife did her thing on main street as she’s not into history or museums but I was in my zone…

When the evening is done go have a good German beer and some good German food at the auslander.

A quick trip to enchanted rock state natural area is great. Hike to the top if you can score admission. You’ll have to reserve a day pass if you go on a weekend
