My dad has asked me for advice on the best option for around $3k for night optics. Either night vision or thermal. He hunts with an AR platform and the furthest he would be shooting is around 300 yards. I've used a cheaper night vision scope in the past but do not know much about current options. He will mainly be using it for hogs with a coyote thrown in every once and awhile. Im currently reading through the forum. Would appreciate any advice.

Take a look at the new Pulsar Thermion 2 XQ35 Pro Thermal Riflescope #PL76541. This scope was released about two months ago with a new sub 25 mK sensor. It’s a 384X288 with a detection range of 1,500-2,000 yards. Recording capability, rechargeable internal and external batteries. Also, sneak peek news.....The iRay TH35V2 (version 2) is launching next week at SHOT Show. It’s the same as their TL35 original version, with following enhancements: · Bluetooth laser rangefinder compatibility · Enhanced AMOLED display · Audio recording

I've got a Super Yoter 35mm I'd sell. Used once to sight in, has the upgraded BoPro mount and still under warranty. PM me if interested.

Iray Bolt TL35 version 2. Not sure when it hits stores and a little over your budget at $3300 but sounds like it's gonna be a sweet one.

All my Pulsar thermal optics run on an external rechargeable battery pack. It lasts longer than it's dark. I would suggest getting something that won't go through a bunch of CR123A batteries a night.

Off the top of my head, I don't know of too many thermals that won't accept an external power supply.
