My sincerest apologies. "Cameroon, Congo, and southern Bantu tribes." I don't think they were here on vacation.

Born in Oklahoma, but not a single drop of Native American blood in me. My daughter and I both did a DNA test and I am 99.3% Northwestern European with 0.6% Congolese & South East African. Over 86% British & Irish and that explains why I sunburn like crazy. Not worried about any three letter agency or insurance company having my data as my daughter is the end of my blood line and doesn't plan on having any children.

No DNA test for me, I do not need any unexpected kids/grandkids knocking on my door looking for a place to stay. Kids would be over 30....no way not going to happen, I am not that curious. My running days were wild from 1987-90. I mean wild!

Yes there is Native American blood on my dads side.

Only DNA testing I've been involved with was for Christmas one years I got the wife a doggie DNA Kit to test our Lab. Come to find out the dog was mostly Labrador, part Rodasian Ridgeback and a dash of Schnauzer. Too funny roflmao

I have seen a lot of pale white people hanging on to their 1/256th native American like the other 255 parts don't matter.
I never understood why so many try so hard that they even make stuff up. I have done a lot of genealogy work for myself and other families. They all say grandma was part Indian. I have disappointed a few folks, mostly my own family at a reunion, that was fun.

Samey-same for me
Family's been here in the Republic of Texas since before
it was a state
My self esteem is ok , so I don't need to claim any heroic
historical people, or that my great great grandfather invented
barbecue or whatever. I can still drive safely and make it to
the toilet in a timely fashion and wash the crust off occasionally,
so I think I'm doing all right

Just me- I don't acknowledge hyphenated Americans

I wish. All mine is English, German and Norwegian. I think the blood of Thor is in my bloodline. Another saving grace is I understand if all northern Europe, likely to be at least 2.4% Neanderthal. I'll rest on that.

So how about your DNA results?

I think anyone who family has long ties to Texas will tell you that a great great grandmother was full or half blooded Indian.

I have heard this story so many times.

For some reason we always thought our grandmother was 50% Cherokee, which would make us 12.5%. Older brother did some type of research on her hoping it was true to help pay for some of his sons college tuition. He said Grandma was a mutt like the rest of us, no Indian.

Picture of my grandma light feather on my lap, okay her name is Lorraine, she could very easily pass as a squaw which made it easy to believe she was half Native American Indian.
I bet before this ancestry thing a lot of people thought they were of a certain heritage and found out they were not.

What I was thinking was validated.... anyone from Oklahoma. Lol

When I was in the Marines all the guys from Oklahoma claimed to be Indian of some sort.

About 4/5 years ago we went camping at Robbers cave SP in Oklahoma. At the office they had a sign that advertised “cave tours” price and time listed. So we paid up and they said “your naturalist” will meet you in the parking lot at 11:00am. So I’m thinking we have some youth fresh from college biologist or something person meeting us. We get there and head up the trail. Not a hard hike or anything about half way up I ask the young lady about native Americans. She tells me to wait till we get to the cave she’s out of breath. Now at that point I’m upper 30s and not a work out type so I was a bit confused. We get to the “cave” (maybe 20 feet of cave, definitely no cave tour needed) she starts in on her stories she’s memorized. All pretty heresy, I ask her about natives again. “No we don’t have engines around here a few in town but I don’t think any lived up here”

I don’t think the young lady new her state history very well. But I was not talking about the ones sent there via relocation. More the originals of the region.

The next day we walk into the natural museum located on the park. Upon walking in I see our young tour guide walk out of the room into a door that said employees only. We walk around and there is a big display that showed the inhabitants of the region Caddo Indians and another tribe. I wanted to knock on the door and have her read it. But her being an okie I wasn’t sure she could read.

My mother told me that she was alive when her and my dad were dating and 1st married. Lived to be pretty old in a cabin back in the woods. Mother said she was half crazy.

Thinking about it over the years it’s sad that someone’s entire identity and past goes away in one generation. Not even knowing their name.

Love those stories. It's been said that my great grandfather was on the reservation in Arizona, and was granted permission to come to Texas for someone's funeral and escaped, never going back to the rez.

I heard an old lady say those exact words to me, as she was sitting in a lawn chair fishing and I surfaced from scuba diving in Canyon Lake, many moons ago.
