I have a few on my place but not much fruit. Stopped by a friend's place in Paris and the empty lot next time his house had a tree just loaded with fruit. Anyway, I planted 70 pieces of fruit and watered them in today. A friend of mine is a retired landscaper and said dig 2" deep hold, cover up, water in and wait.
Deer love them, wish me luck.

It's a different kind of fruit, they have to freeze to become sweet and eatible. If you've ever bitten into a green persimmon you'll know it.

Great deer season fruit for all kinds of animals. Just be patient because the trees grow rather slowly and half of them are male trees that won’t fruit. But be patient, grow many of them, keep the brush away from them and they’ll grow a little faster. Your kids should see persimmons someday.

I have one out of 11 persimmon trees giving fruit. It's right in front of the camp and yes the deer love them. I'm going to try grafting a few of these trees soon. Hopefully I can get a few more to fruit in the next few years.

Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

Nice. Get a couple growing, and you'll 'automatically' get them coming up all over the property.
Have several very large native ones on my property, and yes the deer come around in season to gobble them up.
I've noticed that they put out fruit better when they get regular water; they can handle drought, but no fruit then.

I've made a batch of native persimmon preserves too once; have to sample each and every fruit going in to make sure you don't 'sour' the whole batch!
I like picking ripe ones right off the tree and eating - they're like a tablespoon of honey when you get them right!

A buddy and I were fishing at my coy place in east TX and I came across one and took a bite. That thing was so bitter and it sucked all the moisture out of my mouth. My buddy was laughing and then told me about the freezing to be edible.

Hmm maybe persimmon pudding. Didn't know there were that many down here.

This should work fine. Graft the fruiting one onto the others. Just leave a couple of the non-fruiting ones as pollinators. They’re likely male trees. Actually, if you look at the blooms when they flower, you can tell the males from the females.

To tell you the truth, I've never seen them bloom and some are really tall. I didn't even see the one with fruit bloom. I did pick a bunch after the first frost and they were real sweet. I saved the seeds for future planting.

The flowers are pretty small. An eighth of an inch max, or smaller. But they’re there, assuming the trees are old enough……they do grow very slowly, so it takes a good number of years.
