I have both a Mr Heater Buddy and Big Buddy heater. I run them off a 20 lb propane tank. They are great products. In our camp house, I have a combo CO/smoke detector. I have read the owners manual. Here is my question, do you guys that use these heaters feel safe sleeping with them running? On another note, I am not aware of anyone dying from CO poisoning while using one of these.

I use one in a tent regularly. Ii feel safe sleeping with it on, but rarely need to. If you get it toasty before bed and then have good sleeping bags, I don't find it necessary. I do use a battery powered carbon monoxide detector.

I use one often but always leave a window cracked.

Either make sure there is ventilation or just use it to heat up the room and shut it off for the rest of the night.

According to one of our lease members, he says you can sleep with it no problem and he does in his camper. I personally don’t trust it. If I’m gun hunting in the cold, I will bring it along. But even in the blind, I crack a window.

We lost power last night at around midnight and didn't get it back until 1:00 PM today. It was 8F at daybreak and my home is all electric. I have a small 5,000 watt generator that backfeeds my main panel.

One of my Big Buddy heaters ran all night on high in the 30'x25' sq ft kitchen/family room open area. I use a 20lb. tank located outside with an extension hose routed through a window with neoprene pipe insulation to fill the gap. My house is old and far from airtight and we have never had a problem. This heater along with little 1500-watt space heaters in two bedrooms does a credible job.

I know that many people do it often, but I would not be comfortable sleeping with a high-output unit in a small tightly sealed space. Just my opinion.

I just bought a brand new one, and it says they're "inside safe" now, but I still ain't going to sleep with it on. Don't trust it.

I hate trusting them, but here's the info on the catalytic heater. They don't burn at a temp that produces CO. Well, so sez the Wiki. It's a chemical reaction that produces heat, water, and CO2. You need to crack a window open to let in oxygen though. If you don't, it shuts off from lack of oxygen, and maybe you do too.

I'd like to know if you have a Mr. Buddy heater and you want to be able to hook it to a 20-gallon propane tank, do you need an extra regulator along with a hose adapter?

My grandparents had propane powered dearborn heaters in their house and denton and had no issues.
Old farmhouse so probably a little drafty. I use their old dearborn in the garage

They make a propane detector, you should pick one up.

No, sir. Just the hose because the regulator is in the heater. I use a hose that I bought for my propane griddle.

The Buddy series heaters are not true catalytic. They just burn very, very clean.

You can get an inline propane filter for it as well, and it's recommended. The 20 pound bottles have a lot more trash in them than the 1 pounders, and the orifice on the buddy heaters just isn't that big.

This, but make sure you have right model for altitude. They have 7k and 9k one

I got a smoking deal ($75) on an 18k BTU Big Buddy right after the big freeze. It's my emergency heat source now. That thing puts out some serious heat!
