Thursday in my area 25 to 35 mph winds with gusts to 50 mph. A low of around 7 degrees. Prepping water hydrants and troughs today and tomorrow to try not to completely lose stock water. I didn't like the cold at 25 years old and now staring 70 in the face, I am seriously dreading dealing with the coming challenge. Some of my cattle are not in the best of shape after living with drought conditions all year despite my best efforts and I am concerned that these sub zero wind chills will be fatal to a few of them. To my fellow stockmen, be careful out there when this debacle hits. Take care of yourself first and hope for the best with your animals. Good luck.

The temp swing is going to be wild, right now they are calling for the high to be 70 with a low of 17 in my area.

That’s one huge swing, a chill to the bones. Be careful out and about.

I have to go back to work Christmas Eve, hopefully the damage is done by then and we are on the upswing. I was stuck at work for 120 hours during Uri, busting azz 18 hours in the freezing cold then sleeping on the floor. Hoping we don't have a repeat.

Going from 70 to 24 here on Thursday, that's crazy. Will be down in the 20's for 2 days, time to go fishing (if TP&W doesn't shut it down).

Our high up here on Thursday is predicted to be -18, actual temp. Wind chills are off the chart in the forecast, -60 maybe.
We're headed down sometime Thurs, I think, and it will follow us all the way to Texas.
I'm thinking maybe a very early Friday morning leave time may be in order.
Out temps are supposed to get back into 20's by Friday, that is just fine for up here.

Hoping it really stays on East side of the divide and we won't get as cold, wishful thinking.

Hope you all are prepared and stay safe.

I talked to my sister who lives in Casper a couple of days ago. She asked when I was going to come visit. I just laughed and said "you know I don't go north".

Plenty of feed, water, and a place for the girl's to get out of the wind, and they should be fine. Gotta check them every day.

They've had some good snow up there. We just get dustings and wind with the cold, lol.
Laramie might be colder than Casper this go around, they have been cold up there too.
Pretty parts of Casper and great fishing, you should go up in July or so.

Yeah, I've been doing this for a while, I know the drill. Just not looking forward to the chill in my old bones.

Got tractor and truck filled up with diesel and anti-gel added. Will plug in the block heater on truck. All outdoor faucets bundled up. Extra gasoline for the generator if needed. No livestock to worry about as of yet, thank goodness.

Everyone stay safe!

Hmmmm, didn't think about that.

Supposed to get down to 10°F where I am (Deep East Texas) overnight one night and then teens a couple days after (warming during the day).

Do I need to treat the diesel in my tractors (stored outside) and any fuel in cans....or does it need to colder than that for longer.

Some blends of windshield washer fluid will freeze. Not having any idea what's in our vehicles I poured some rubbing alcohol in them and ran the washers to get it into the lines.

I did that when we had our famous freeze and had no problems.

Thinking about it. Just for a “memorable” experience, if I don’t die from exposure.

All pipes covered, going to move my trash bins up against the garage so they don't blow over and into the alley like 1/4 of my neighbor's.

28degrees and light snow in the air going to the blind this morning. Wind is howling so I don’t have any real hope for big daddy.

Well... It's here. Got nippy quick. Tank de-icers are in the troughs. Horses blanketed. Heater running wide open in my shop bathroom. Pool equipment covered. And most importantly fuzzy lined croc's out of the back of the closet. grin
