My “heavy hitter” is a CZ 550 in 9.3x62. It has a maple stock, 20.5” barrel and wears a 1-6 LPVO.

It’s really more of a classic thumper. Weighs a hair under 9lbs with optic.

9.3x62 is kind of a big 308. Uses the same powders. I’m playing around with Varget and 250 grain Accubonds and TTSX.

Shot it today and recoil is not horrible from the bench. Should be able to get +/- 2600 fps with 250s and +/- 2400 fps with 286 partitions. Most likely will stick to with the 250s.

300 WBY. Worked up a load with some 212 hornady eldx for an upcoming nilgai hunt and probably going to sell it after that and buy a 45 colt lever gun.

Mines a .338 Edge launching a 300 gr. Sierra Match King. Powder charge is 90 gr. Of H1000. It's a 1000 yard gun, accurate and fun to shoot. Recoil is very manageable. I've had ladies and young kids shoot it without issue.

A .338 Edge is a Remington Ultra Mag necked out to .338.

Me too. I sold my 300RUM a long time ago. My heavy hitter would have to be a 12 gauge

338-06 AI. on a Sako action , custom built by a New Braunfels gunsmith. Shoots little tiny groups with several different bullets.

I forgot about my scatter gun, I guess if I was shooting a spicy 00 buck or slug it would be the winner

Mine is an econo-custom VZ-24 chambered in .35 Whelen...at least that's the way I bought it. It's now decked out with a Dakota 3-position M70 style safety and a B&c Medalist stock. I got it for bear hunting in Arkansas...went there three times and never so much as stepped in bear poop. It's just not something I really need, but I'd like to kill a big hog with it before it finds a new home.

So, I took it out a time or two on hoig hunts. The blind I like to hunt sits near the corner of the property. One evening I sat there and saw a small sounder cross the corner of the property expecting them to head toward the feeder, but they just cut across the corner. The next day I sat in the same blind determined not to let them get away with that, and sure enough I spotted hogs coming in under the fence in the same spot. My mindset was "hog, shoot!" and I shot the first one I saw, paying no attention to its size. Just as I fired I saw a much larger hog cross under the fence rolight behind it, but the 225 Acvubond was already in flight. I hit the little feller, all right, but the rest of the sounder was headed to San Antonio before I could chamber another round.

When I went to examine my trophy it turned out to be a piglet of about 25 pounds. I modified my thinking a little even as I gazed upon the little beast. Sometimes it just goes that way, I guess.

I'll be hanging on to the Whelen a while longer. I think it's feeling very unfulfilled at this time.

wink

My heavy hitter is my 1895g, 45/70. Handloads are 300 XTP's at 2100 fps. I put a scope on it while I was testing loads and sat at the bench and shot 25 rounds. That really sucked. Put the peep sights back on, and shooting it freehand ain't bad. It just rocks you back a bit.

375 H&H mag is my “dangerous game rifle”
Also have a 45/70 depending on how you load it could also be considered dangerous game rifle..

Never shot anything with the 45/70 that every took a single step afterwards.

Grain SSTs. Recoil isn’t too bad but you feel it.

In general, or just for toting and hunting?

(I'll tote the general one in the right situation though)

Either, no wrong answer. I’m a little shocked at the variety of answers. I expected mostly 300 win mag.

Not mine but my brother has a marlin 45-70 I load for. Max load of 405 hard cast kills on both ends. I shot a hog with it and he shot a spike buck with it and said the next round of ammo needs to be tamed down some.
