Drew the WMA for the youth/adult hunt this weekend. Haven’t hunted out that direction in over 20 years. Avid duck hunter, so we have a good understanding on how to make it happen, but was curious if anyone had any good info on the WMA itself, or the bird numbers in the surrounding panhandle area.
I’m expecting mostly puddle ducks, with the possibility of canadas. Am I wrong on this? Is it worth setting out a spread for snows? I’m really just trying to get a good idea of what to pack for this trip.
Thanks guys AT

I’ve hunted near there. Wigeon pintail teal mallards, lessers have taken over that area likely to see some specks and I wouldn’t hunt it without that free sandhill endorsement either.

I got to do that hunt the first year they had it. Incredible hunting. Geese roost there. We went in after they left to go feed. Killed a 3 man of green heads quick with couple pintail kickers. Then got a 3 man on Canada as they returned mid morning. Obviously my hunt was over 20 years ago I think. We stayed in the It’ll Do motel and man it barely did.

Lol we booked an Air BnB because back in the day we got in trouble for cleaning the geese in the bathtub. I remember those ponds being covered up as a kid, but we shall see what it’s like now! Thanks for the help fellas.

No geese, but it's usually chock full of mallards. I don't know how close the water is to the tree line, so I'd bring an a-framr or layout blinds. I will say 2 weeks ago that the birds were already going out to feed at night, but they could of already left and be birds showed up. It is supposed to be pretty cool this weekend.

Back in the 80s it was just barely it'll do. Now I expect it won't.
