You have one? Have you use it a bit? I’ve been thinking that idea for years neat to see it put in place.

I have my container wired to a 30amp plug, but can run it off 2000w generator if need be, infact normally keep gen down there just in case. 4k gen set would run everything at on time.

Solar wouldn’t be that hard of an addition since I have room for battery banks.

Where I hunt, there is no nearby electricity. If I had it then it would definitely be my first choice. Instead, us hunters have the 2000 watt inverted generators. This generator holds 1 gallon of gas and can run up to 12 hours on that gallon. It will power the lights at camp, the 50 inch flat screen TV, a small refigerator as well as a small chest type freezer ALL at the same time.

Over the years we did a lot of different configurations. We had one 25amp plug at the cattle pens that ran a few lights. Also dropped a submersible pump in the concrete windmill water tank for water.

I run my little cabin with a Yamaha EF2000is.

Will run the tv, lights, mini fridge, microwave or vacuum. I use propane for heating. The little Yamaha will run for about 12 hours on a 1 gallon of gas if you are just running lights and tv.

My son and I installed a solar power system in our off-grid hunting cabin. It consists of 6 -12 volt 120 amp hour AGM batteries, 2 - 200 watt solar panels, 1 - 160 watt panel, 1 - 30 amp solar controller/charger and a 3500 watt inverter. It has plenty of power to run electric griddle, coffee maker, microwave oven, ceiling fan, power tools, etc. You can't run the griddle, coffee maker and microwave all at once though. Also, the inverter will not run our 12,000 BTU window AC. We use a 4500 watt generator when AC is required. I will probably upgrade to a 5000 watt pure sinewave inverter at some point. The cabin is wired for 110V AC and a 100 AMP panel. We have a transfer panel switch to switch from generator to inverter AC power. Prior to finishing the interior, we installed a 12 volt RV lighting system and 12 volt outlets to charge cell phones etc. The 12V lighting is nice as its always available at the flip of a switch, no need to fire up the generator or turn on the inverter.

The solar panels and controller weren't that expensive, $200 each for the panels and the controller was $100. The batteries are expensive at about $700 each.

I have power from the grid, there are no cons. I have a Yamaha 2200w inverter just in case. Those of you that have the solar set ups, please explain the pros. To me, investing $5K+ and not being able to run a window unit, or coffee maker and griddle at the same time seems like a serious con. A small generator like mine with 5 gallons of gas provides more power for less money for a longer period of time.

We use a Honda 2000 unless we need the AC, then we tether two 2000s together.

How much power do you need? What are your applications? What are you going to be running?

Otherwise you're going to be getting random answers.

To be determined

Yes I have one. It’s a beast. Faster, more power, and way better gas mileage than my Tundra. Plus the generator is awesome. Just pull into camp plug camper in and hood to go. 48 hours straight running camper with AC used about 1/2 a tank of gas.

Our camp is right next to a well pump house that pumps water all through the ranch. Landowner pays for the electricity. Can't think of any cons grin

I would love to have power from the grid but con is $15K+ to get power to our cabin. Also, 2200W generator won't run a AC unit large enough to cool our cabin.

LO provides the power pole with security light. We provide the plug-ins for trailers, and I have the electric in my name and pay the bill.

200 amps@240volts at the pole, then 60A @120v wired to each cabin, and 2 30A 120v sockets on the pole for RV's ! grin
$8k for the drop, and only $10/mo for meter.
$5k for the water-meter drop.
Praise God for the one-time lump of oil-lease money to 'get connected'!

That, however, was after 40 years of having only coleman stove & lanterns and flashlights, & baby-wipe showers, and just sweating or freezing our a55es off!
