Can you rebuild the old one, assuming you have an old one? Plenty of instructional videos on youtube.

I wouldn't trust one. I've had great life out of mine so far.

I bought an 18 volt 9ah aftermarket battery for my buffer and sawzall. I have never run it below 3/4 charge and I buffed my whole 22' Champ Bay. I thought I needed a different charge so I also bought a charger with it. The charger didn't work initially and I got a refund. They told me to just keep it. Looking at the charger it looked like the contact that monitors the battery was in the wrong position. I took it apart, moved the contact, and in 5 minutes had a free working charger. Last weekend I spent 30 minutes with the sawzall cutting some cedar limbs and battery barely lost a charge.

My sons father in law had a brand new Ryobi self propelled 20” mower that he never used. Got it in a big tool bundle. He uses a rider and this thing just sits. He gave the mower to my son w/o a battery. I am getting him a battery for a Christmas gift and got sticker shock at the price from HD. You guys who had good luck with aftermarket, what brand did you get? There are dozens. I am leaning toward genuine Ryobi though. 3 year warranty. China stuff is 30 days and Ryobi off Amazon or E-Bay…no warranty from Ryobi.

Batteries + might be able to rebuild the bad one cheaper than buying new. Otherwise, HD sometimes has a 2 for 1 Ryobi battery deal.

I bought Vanon 18V and have never had a problem in over 4 years Same here but had it 6 months. It has a charge indicator on it and never seen it below 3/4. I thought I needed the 9ah for buffer but a 6 would have worked fine.
