Monsterbrows is down. First deer taken off our ranch this year. Let’s get a little age and score guessing going this fine Saturday morning. I posted it on the live thread earlier today, but thought this might be a better spot.
Whatcha say?

First trophy for the huntress.

He has about 40+/- up with 7-8 inch brows, his frame lacks width and mass and he has about 85-90 down, so he is a solid low 130” deer.
Age is around 5.5, plus or minus one.

Good buck!

Good buck!

Well you’re right about the brows. They were 8+ and 7+. Spread was 16.5”. Other hints include 5 inch bases and his best tine was just under 10 inches. Oh, and the little crab claw g4 on the right was almost 3. Little bonus.

And here is a pic of him 2 years ago. We never saw him in ‘21. Brow tines and scar on the left shoulder make it almost certain.

Ok ok, i forgot a tine on each side roflmao

With 16.5” spread and 5 inch bases, i will stick with my 90” down, but he has 55 up, so
It makes him 145”

Age i will go to 7.5 but nothing can really be said based on the pics. He prob 5.5 when you saw him 2 years ago with a better rack. Really no way to tell based on the pics tho

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

Most of you were pretty dang close. He taped out right at 149 and his teeth showed 6.5.

I know you feed so I was wondering if this deer was a protein hound??
If so, I'd say he is probably older than the tooth wear says.

He might have been, but I don't really maintain cams at the protein feeder in his area. Heck, the buck was pretty much a ghost until a month ago. I aged him at 4.5 on the hoof two years ago, but I wouldn't argue with anyone that said 6.5 or 7.5.

Truth be told, when I saw him 2 years ago I expected him to be in the mid 160s this year. His score is pretty representative of what we're seeing across the board from our mature bucks in 2022. It's a shame too because there are A LOT of 6.5 and 7.5 year olds running around this year. I'm not turning my nose up, but we were setup to have some exceptional bucks for our ranch and the rain just didn't fall at the right time.

One deer I have not seen in person or on cam yet this year is this guy. I think it's time to focus on him. Who knows what he might have done this year.

Guess ive been busy and missed this thread. Would of loved to play along on the score. You have some good deer for sure. Interesting that more and more are commenting about it being a down antler year. We are starting to see the same.
