That’s more like what I grew up on In Wisconsin for kolachies, only mom made them pan size and cut them like a pie. Oh the memories!!!!!

They would be home made ones filled with what you listed plus some of them were like a cream filled donut except the filling in the middle was poppy seeds. Makes my mouth water just thinking about them.

I kinda knew when I put this out there it would bring out what this is what this would happen.. I am Czech, and what bigbob said is spot on. What those Cali call it is NOT what i grew up as a kolache .But hey each his own. But i know what is the real deal!!!!  But they are GOOD!!!!!!

Best of my knowledge Kolaches are fruit filled yeast pastries.
When I was in Houston many moons ago there was this place that sold traditional Kolaches but also had a spin on it where they made a yeast like flat dinner roll with meats and cheeses, not like a pig in a blanket round roll, it was some dang good stuff whatever you call it.

At this of the year 70 years ago my grandma, mom aunts and Mrs Pavlicek would be working the stove to death making sweets for Christmas. Kolches, pies cookies and other goodies. The men would be playing dominos and drinking beer. All us grandkids would be pestering the the adults. The house would smell great.

And the best ones in West are at the Village Bakery not those joints on the highway. Have to get there early because they sell out quick.
