I hope this post finds all well!!
I'm booking hunts for the 2009 pheasant season in the upper TX panhandle. This is a wild pheasant hunt, not released pen raised birds. As of today I'm 70% booked. Season is Dec. 5 thru Jan. 3.
Please, I would like to take care of all details off this site.
Lets let the forum be for what it is made for info. and sharing. Not outfitter details. You can contact me e-mail tballinger@cableone.net. Thanks to the forum and all the good it brings us. Tim Ballinger (shorthair)

Those are great pictures! They sure bring back memories. I can't wait till December. We had a blast last year and it sounds like 2009 will be even better.

Tell Cass I have an old Superposed he needs to see. Maybe I can sneak away for the last few days of the season too. Heck, I need to move to Dumas. Need a partner?

That sounds great, I'll look forward to seeing it. Tim had e-mailed me something about his "coonass" friend having an old Superposed, ha! wink

Maybe we'll have to plan a retro hunt....shotguns at least 50 years old or older. I don't think the birds would have a chance, ha!

That would be a great hunt to be on!! Problem!! Your guide does not own a 50 yr old or older. Ha ha. I'll just watch you aces knock'em down. I hope we can work it out for the two of you to hunt together this yr?

Cass, a retro hunt sounds great! What do they say about old age and treachery? Heck, those roosters are too young to know anything about pre-war guns. I bet they never even heard of Nash Buckingham or his famous Bo Whoop. They won't have a chance!

My group will be in Dumas in early December, but later I'll be visiting my daughter in Frisco (Tx) for New Years. I'm working on a devious plan to get away and maybe hunt Jan 2,3 if you guys have room (and the wimmin folks oblige) It would be sweet to take some pictures of the pre-war Superposed class of '36-'38 in the field.

Tim, it's no problem that you don't have a 50yr old shotgun. Remember, it's your job to "respect your elders", feel sorry for us old guys, and generally just put us on birds (and maybe carry them for us) Ha Ha.

I'm 40 now!! March 41. When does a guy hit that respect level? We'll see this season but last years season did a number on me (age).haha. Between work and putting the mojo on this birds right now, I dont see how I'm so excited about pheasant season. I have been so busy with both, work and pheasant mojo. I have not been dove hunting since I dont know when, but I think I may have to go next weekend. I was on one of our sec. of ground Wed. evening and 1,000's of dove where covering my mojo areas....my neighbors jaw hit the ground.lol. He has never seen that many pheasant either...he said "dude I think you have every pheasant in the county here on your ground"......I said, I hope so!!
You my man have every ounce of my respect. My friend " YOUR A GOOD ONE".

Don't worry about getting to that respect level, you got it from me about 10 minutes after I met you. I well remember how much effort you put into making our hunt a success even though us rifle shooters were slow to decent shotgun shooting. Joe and I have been at the skeet range every week for a month now, and will continue at it. We can see the improvement.

Our new home is 4 miles from Cabela's. Keep that in mind if/when you get to New Orleans!!

Keep that mojo working!

LOL,LOL. One of you locked keys in my truck...remember? I hope the move into your new home is coming along well? The mojo has been going on all weekend...you'll see in the e-mails. I have to mow home lawns tomorrow before I screw this entire deal up for all of us....lol.

Lanny:

That sounds great, you are welcome to join us any time! I am still trying to pin the group down to commit and set travel times, etc. It seems to be a full time job, ha!

I'm also hoping to make it out sometime earlier in December like I did last year. I use the excuse that I need to scout things out, ha!

We did the 'big' move today and are now in the new home. Wow,it sure is nice to be settled finally. Still lots to do though.

Cass, if you can 'scout' sometime between Dec 7-9, you are welcome to join our group. One of my guys on the hunt just bought his second old Superposed, this one from 1934 I think. He already has a '49 gun. I know he'd enjoy seeing your oldies, as would I.

By the way, what's your favorite pheasant load?

That early scouting trip sounds like fun. I'll see what I can work out.

I've been shooting the Fiocchi Golden Pheasant shells the last couple years. I've tried both 5's and 4's. What have you guys been shooting?

Hey Tim:

Don't worry about not having an old shotgun. It sounds like one of us could fix you up with a loaner. I promise I won't give you that rusty old single shot with the broken stock fixed with baling wire and 16 penny nails. smile

Cass, Thank you! lol. I'll stick with the beretta ultralite. Its been a good one, and old enough. I'll sit back and enjoy you two hunt it out... We went out for a hour last night to hunt dove. I was in the perfect spot, neighbor and his friend in the wrong. We pulled 5-6 out with lots of shooting.lol.
It was fun, been awhile since I have been dove hunting. They went out this morning again. Dove are crazy up here.

Last year I shot some Fiocchi 4's and some Federals also. Nothing to write home about in my shooting though.

Couple weeks back I did some pattern work and was disappointed with the high speed Fiocchi 4's. It was pretty bad in my Citori. Some regular old Federal Premium 4's were pretty awsome though. Of course now I can't find any more. I think I will go with 5's this year, but I'm going to test again soon.
If Tim's dogs are as good as they were last year I might only bring six shells with me. nidea

I have never hunted pheasants......one of these days I will get around to it.

Many years ago on my way up to Ft Riley Kansas I was amazed to see pheasants launching from the bar ditches along the highway every 3-4 miles.

They are beautiful birds!!!
