Got this guy this morning about 7:30 right as this rain stopped. Been wanting this guy for awhile. We nicknamed him Newt. Only my second buck kill of my life and the biggest one too. Out at my best friends ranch in Coleman. Shot em an he dropped about 20 yards later. Clean kill. And the family has meat for the year. Love bringing home meat I harvested. No better feeling.
Congrats on bringing home the bacon or rather venison. But I guess you could make venison bacon! I’m hoping the boys coming out after the rain let’s up here.
I have a ranch in Coleman County, my bunch took a nice mature 8 over the weekend, they saw another shooter but couldn’t get an ethical shot at him. This buck aged at 51/2

Now, if you have the time and inclination, go shoot a few does! More meat for the family and more food for the surviving deer. Not sure what your buck to doe ratio is, but if it's like my buddy's place near there, one buck to ten does is not healthy, even if the one buck is quite happy. It's doe killing time!

Well done! Looks like one of our Panhandle free range bucks. Your group is doing something right if large, healthy deer are the goal. If low fence, then I'm very impressed.

We should swap some pictures sometime. My buddy has a ranch out there. We have been managing it strictly for about 5 years but never really seem to see much above a 10. He has taken a 12 on it before but like I said not often.

We don’t shoot many deer, this is the third deer we took since 2019, one of my grandsons messed up last year and shot a young 8, plus a cull buck. Our population isn’t great, I think it’s too many coyotes. We feed protein all year, plus corn. I do love going out there, especially when I have the grandkids with me. Good luck.
