Grosvenor, Im thinking pretty much like you. Yours dont seem to have the mass like I remember some of yours in the past. Even in a dry year there will be a big one that figures out a way to get big, so keep waiting on those outliers.

Another hog, two doe, and a spike down this morning. We’re gonna keep taking mouths off as long as we can. Old bucks will show up when they want to show up, just gotta be in the stand at the same time. A number of our “big” deer look like they’d do better with a wetter year anyway so I’m fine managing does and bottom of class bucks until we fill our tags.

Well, you must be sending out good vibes. Just about an hour after I sent that we drove up on a heavy horned, tall browed 10 pt that I have some history with and appears to have made a pretty good jump. We didn’t get a long look, but it was long enough. Outlier located! I have a cam in the area, so hopefully i’ll get some pics this week. I have pics from the last two years.

I went into guide mode this morning and they put 2 on the ground, one 9 point called Mr Tines that had 14” G2’s and a 14 point. I saw 12 bucks from the truck and lots of doe’s. Bucks were going pretty much everywhere cruising this morning and I slept half the morning so I’m sure I’d seen a lot more if I’d stayed awake in the truck. I did shoot the buck that’s been killing bucks the last several years fighting, he was a 7 year old 6 point. I found his latest victim on the edge of a field this morning after a blasted him. His rack was made for killing his opponents, 15”s wide with daggers up top. I’m exhausted and ready to sleep a few days but when I recover I’m going into hunt mode and going after the one I saw running doe’s at day light. The killer himself finally dead……

My 12 year old girl smoked a nice cull at 7:15am today. We had 14 in front of us within 150 years. All but 1 doe bolted & she took some lead as well. We are working on a deer for twin sister now.

Now that I'm seeing the pics I took with my phone and binocs from the stand on a computer screen, I can see why you made that comment for sure. I'm digitally zooming in 5X on the phone and then taking the pic through my binocs, and that tends to make the frame and tines look more spindly then they are in reality. That said, we just don't have a ton of mass on most of our bucks year to year. 32 inches on a mature buck is pretty good and one that we would consider having really good mass would be in the 34-36 inch range.

Had this one come out about 80 yards and caught me off guard , I had my binos and hand and stoped him at a real fast walk like he had somewhere to go but I stoped him long enough to know he was a 12 and around 19” wide. He went into the trees later to appear at the fence line and jumped to the neighbors place. In the pic he’s about 250 yards away.

He will look good on your neighbors wall!

They don’t really hunt much at all kind of like us it’s a second home place.

Usually between youth weekend and opening day of the general season the grandkids have taken a couple bucks, we haven’t seen a mature buck so far this season.
We try not to take more than 2 bucks off right at 200 acres, last year just one spike this year nothing so far.

I’m still with ya’ll, good movement this morning seen several fawns without momma. But nothing to put a tag on yet spike and an 8 feeding now hopefully something will get thirsty soon. They are going thru water fast this year

Gimme a week and I’ll get started.

Had a giant come through at daylight but she couldn’t get a shot at him and a few smaller bucks cruising through well after daylight. In the last 45 minutes 2 hot doe’s have came through with a couple 3-4 year olds dogging them so we’re in for the day to see what happens.

Always pack a lunch. Especially this time of year.

Had a slew of does at my stand this am and not one came in with a buck trailing.
Did have a couple of bucks come in and sniff a little, but it seems the doe either aren’t there yet or they have already cycled. Seeing their fur isn’t all messed up i think its the former not the latter.

Might change any moment though. Hoping this evening sit will be more fun.
