My daughter (12) is showing some interest in shooting some longer ranges (300-500) right now. She started hunting with me last year and killed her first two deer and that was a game changer. I have her shooting consistent groups at 200yds now with my 7-08 and 6.5 both hunting rifles sporter barrels off of bags. I went and looked at few rifles today and there are a ton of factory built options. If you were to buy a new factory gun that would double as a hunting and longer range shooter what would you purchase? Our hunting is all in box stand so weight is not that important . Just about every manufacture is building something now so I'm open to suggestions and opinions. I don't really want to purchase a custom built rifle or anything like that. Just something off the shelf will work for our needs.

Remington 700 5R in 6.5 Creedmoor one of the best for off the shelf, very accurate.

What he said. Been my go-to white tail set up for about 6 years, have shot two informal long range matches with it. Did alright. Mine is in .308, it kills really well. The CTR has unquestionable accuracy, the 6.5 Creedmoor is exactly what she needs to meet your criteria.

I had one. It required a trigger upgrade and was no more accurate than my CTR. Maybe less. Fine rifle no doubt, but having both I gotta give the nod to the CTR.

It's really hard to argue with a CTR in that role. The barrel is thick enough to handle target role and the overall rifle is light enough to make a good hunting rig.

Seems like the CTR is the way to go.

CTR in 6.5 CM or 308. I have 2 of them and they're very capable of 1000+ yard sub MOA accuracy. Go ahead and get a good dial up scope for it. The Nightforce SHV is a great combination hunting and target scope. I doubt she'll want to stop at 500.

Seen plenty of Remingtons have bad barrels. Stock bedded, pillars installed, trigger replaced, load development attempted and they still wouldn't shoot worth a damn.

Not ever one time have I seen a bad shooting Tikka. And I've shot and/or spotted for over a hundred of them. And I keep their triggers. 70° bolt throw as opposed to 90° in the Remington. M-16 style extractor, nice user adjustable trigger, shoot tight, and eject strong. I've got one action/bolt/trigger with 4000 rounds on it, and it's still fine.

Remington went bankrupt over many things, poor quality control being one of them.

Sig Cross...since all the Tikka leg humpers are out thought you might want to look at something else. Nothing wrong with a Tikka, but there are other options and I don't like having what everyone else does.

Come on Buzz...I'm outnumbered here and need a little non-Tikka love rofl

I thought about the Sig Cross but I've never owned or shot one. I don't know if they are match accurate. I know Geedub has one in 308 but he uses it to slay hogs with thermal and a suppressor. I know it's good for hogs.

If your not already, consider loading your own. Not just more accurate but also a great father/daughter learning experience.

I bought one in 6.5 CM for my daughter. Took a few shots for the barrel to tighten up. With that said I only had some random loads for it. Shooting Norma 143 bond strikes Sub MOA. Dallas reloads 143eldx MOA. Copper creek 125 partitions 1.5 MOA. I haven’t taken it past 100 yet so I can’t attest to long range yet. After I get CAN I’ll get serious with it. I haven’t used any Hornady ammo yet just some random custom pet loads from copper creek and Dallas reloads.

With all that said I had full pass through on a 350lb ish bear with bondstrikes

Carrying that rifle in a backpack is awesome

I’m happy with the Cross in .308 for hunting and banging steal on the 500 yard range. Light and compact folded it’s easy to carry and accurate enough for my purposes.

I got 2 little girls and hope they do shoot long range rifles when they're about your kid's age. I think having a rifle that is adjustable, both length and height would be great, is now a very reasonable request to accommodate. Maybe I over think this aspect but my girls are both small for their age at 5ish and my wife is 5'2".

Btw, listing a realistic budget i believe would yields better suggestions. I too am somewhat a tikka fan boy so pure factory the T3 tac A1 woould fit but obviously more expensive than a ctr. There are others with check riser and spacer kits. We have a s standard t3 varmint with a krg bravo stock with a length of pull kit. Super simple to put together. It's my small wife's rifle and we both really like shooting it. I'm about 6' tall.

I'm a dude who likes long barrels!
