I'm wondering if there are any S&W Model 36 2" Revolver experts in this forum.

My guess is "Yes."

My question is simple...

Since my interest piqued in small revolvers over the last couple years, I have NOT seen any old/used .38s in pawn shops.

Question: From the 50s to the 70s/80s, did the actual frame size/feel change in any way? Does a '58 frame feel pretty much like a '78?

I have an awesome Rossi Model 88 .38, just about the same as a Smith Model 36/60.
I was at a gun show last year, picked up a '64 S&W Model 36, didn't buy it, but it did NOT feel like the Rossi.

Since then, I have not seen a S&W Model 36. If I buy one online, and cannot hold it, I'm not sure how the "feel" is.

So, back to my only question: Do the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s M36 frames all feel about the same? Thanks, IN65/joe

...?

If the 2nd amendment was written just to include guns for hunting, why is there not an amendment to protect fishing poles?

Yes, I know about the S&W forum, but I thought I'd ask in the Hunting Forum, specifically in the OT since there are more members there, but my question got moved.

Thanks...

There’s square butt and round butt. They have their own feel. Your Rossi I believe has a square so the round will probably feel different to you than the square.

The different stocks/grips make all the difference in the feel. There are many J frame models other than the 36 but they all have the identical size frame just some are round butt and some are square butt. All stainless model numbers start with a “6”. If it is shiny and doesn’t start with a 6 it is nickel plated.

During the first couple of years or so when they were first made, they were built on a different frame size. This was before they were designated as a model 36. They were built on a modified "I" frame. The grip is shorter and the trigger guard is different. These are know as the "Baby Chiefs" These are very hard to find. They are also several different variations of the Baby Chiefs due to different sight changes and latch changes. There is a lot of information out there by googling S&W Baby Chief. Hope this helps some.
