They make strips called sharks teeth that you can screw onto feeder legs/around anywhere a coon will climb they have sharp teeth that poke/cut coins or other varmint s when they grab onto them.

All seasons makes a spinner plate called the eliminator that is spring loaded and when the timer goes off it drops down and slings corn, then slams shut into the feeder when done. I have used a couple of these of e few years now and they seems to work pretty well. Installation was tricky but once they were done correctly all was good.

Between deer licking the spinners and coons raking the corn off the spinners, I was going through 350# a week at my place in Oklahoma, but varmint cages on my Sweeney feeders stopped 95% of the problem.

When I’m up there, I set out dog proof coon traps too.

You want to get rid of the coons regardless of making the feeder coon proof. They are nest destroyers and will ruin bird populations especially turkeys. Same with possums.

Dukes are the way to go....I have caught 47 in the last 10 months. Corn and top off with a few pieces of dried cat food. They just keep coming. I have 3 traps and average 2 catches a week these days.

red lens Q-beam and scoped 22 ... can knock out several every night. dog proof fraps, and/or live traps ... if you are overrun, it will take some time to get the population down using these methods. at my west Texas place, I usually set 2-3 live traps after an evening hunt, bait with corn, set up 20-30 yards away from feeder. After the next morning hunt, load traps in truck and relocate 10+ miles away (LO doesn't allow varmint killing). I have made many trips, catching 2 in a trap on several occasions.

they were trashing all the feeders ... so I put the cages on, 4" PVC about 2-3' long suspended with chains or bailing wire so the PVC rotates on the legs. I tried the Vaseline and various types of grease but after about the 5th coon tries to climb, they get enough dirt/mud in the grease to render it ineffective. The PVC seems to help the most.

Funny thing at our east Texas place, we have coons but none of them are climbers (yet?), they just converge around the corn on the ground.

I went back to OK, today due to me being off on PTO

They destroyed that cheap cage in under 6 hours

I wired the piss out of it, I am tryin to limp by due to how close we are to season opening

I am really trying to get in and out

I didn't take a trap because whatever I caught would surely be dead as hell before I can get back Saturday

I think the best option is a good, well built feeder w large enough varmint cage that they stick their hands in and spin the feeder

For years I fought the pigs and put up a nice round pen...this year the pigs can't get me but the coons are causing me hell

I have no doubt, 100 lbs of corn was gone from Sat to Mon, the coons didn't eat all the but they D around and spin it all the time

Take a $6 one pound tub of lithium grease or large size Vaseline and a pair of rubber gloves next time. Put the whole thing on the feeder legs top to bottom and they will not reach your feed motor for the rest of season. Been using that on my feeders for over 30 years. Cheap, easy, and it works. You will later see where they try, but never get off the ground. Only bad is the mess if you ever have to take the feeder down soon after applying it. Or if you forget and grab a leg while you are filling the feeder or resetting new times. I was on a very large lease many years ago with lots of hunters I did not know where I even put it on the feed motor housing to stop random lease members who where hunting my feeder from messing with my feed times or to stop them from opening it up to hit the test button before a hunt. I have tried other things including cages and always go back to simply greasing the feeder legs.

I put an electric fence charger on one of my feeders. The game cam pictures showed coons laying on their backs under the feeder for about 10 minutes and then they would be gone. After about 3 days never saw another coon on camera. Got allot of pleasure looking at those pics of coons that had the snot shocked out of them laying on the ground. Educated them pretty quick.

That may be my best bet

I start feeding in the end of July, first of Aug every year

Never have I had coons like this

I can grab a jar, smear it, fill the feeder and be gone, I think ill try that

We have a chicken coop I built 3-4 years ago at the house

They literally taught themselves how to unlock the gate

Smartest critters in the field I swear

But I have never had an issue w them in Ok until this year, ive never saw a coon in 15 years of hunting there

If they were worth anything id be rich

agree that the grease or Vasoline will be very effective ... until enough of them try to climb and get enough dirt/mud where they can then climb. My Ozona place was like that (covered up with coons) and only took a couple of days before they could get high enough to get to the cage...

Just put an Eliminator plate on it and or buy a small roll of 1” wire and wrap it around the legs and zip tie a bottom piece on it or use wire to hold it together. A plate will solve the issue more then likely but our feeders have both. You still need to eradicate the coons to keep them from eating everything on the ground, Duke Traps and a 22 will solve that dilemma very quickly as well.

Yup…

Eliminator spinner for like $40 bucks and be done with it. Landowner for us has goats and they learned to ram feeders and legs to drop corn. Put these spinners on and no more corn or other varmint problems. Worth the corn savings in a week.

This right here. I don't know if it is compatible with your feeder but I am sure a quick phone call would answer any questions.

We have these on all of our feeders and never get a picture/see a coon on our feeders. They have to wait and eat like every other animal.

$42.99 is a cheap, easy and permanent fix.
