Well, me saying 150 grain Nosler Partitions shouldn't surprise anybody. It's just my favorite 30 cal bullet.

Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

I have a browning a bolt in 300 win mag.I use 77 gr. reloader 22 with 168gr barnes triple shock bullet. It will take down any game you listed with no problem. They are real accurate in my rifle.Barnes triple shock are the only bullets I load for hunting they cost more but using them just for hunting it not to bad. I load sierra's for target. If you load the barnes they need to seat deeper about 40/000

With the exception of 4 rifles, I shoot Barnes "X" and Triple Shocks when hunting, and that covers from 22 Hornet to 375 H&H. Yes, the bullets are expensive, but when it comes down to it, the price of an individual cartridge is the cheapest part of any hunt. Why spend all kinds of money on guns, scopes, leases/package hunts, and then go cheap when it comes to the bullet being used?

On most of my shooting I try and match the bullet in any given rifle to the job at hand... depending on of course a particular rifle's abillty to shoot accurately what I stuff down it.
For beer cans and varmints I'd prolly not shoot a high dollar bullet of any kind...for WT deer and elk I'd prolly shoot two different bullets depending on distances.

For trophy critters or extreme shots where I had mucho dinero involved I'd be shooting the very best bullet I could find...that shot best out of my gun.

As far as bullet weights...let the gun tell what it likes. In a 300 WMg you have the opportunity to throw heavier bullets farther & flatter than you would in say a 308...but they are still a 30 caliber bullet at the end of the day....JMHO

I do most of my sight in work with cheaper bullets that are as close, ballistically, to whatever grain weight of Barnes bullet that I will be using after game. I will then run 3 to 5 rounds of the Barnes loads thru, just to make sure things are where they are supposed to be.

With the changes in the past few years, in the quality of what can be bought off the shelf, a lot of folks have started getting out of that, "Buy whatever is on sale", attitude when it comes to buying hunting ammunition.

Biggest reason why I handload, is that I can get the rifle worked in to the accuracy level I want at a reasonable cost, then I can do the final tweaking with just a few shots of the better quality shells.

I personnally like the 300 Win.Mag., and the first big game rifle I ever owned was a 670 Winchester in 300 WM. Killed many deer and coyote with that gun. I have replaced it with another in a Synthetic stocked Model 70, and once I get it scoped I will shoot a deer or two with it.

I have some Barnes 150gr and 168gr TSX that I am loading for my new 300 WinMag. I have the 150 shooting a little better groupds out to 200 but the 168 is holding better at 300. I will probably use the 168 on my Aoudad hunt in January.

In a 300 WMg, or other full length 30 cal Mags the ideal long range - over 300 yards - bullet is a 200 gr'er in terms of drop and wind resistance, without much loss of speed at MV and actually better speed retention at distance. I usually find that 180's also work well for me as a compromise and like to have the heavy for caliber ability that any of the full length 300Mags are capable of to put its best possible use on the target ...otherwise I'd just as soon shoot a 308 or '06 in bullet weights up to 165/168 grains and under 300 yards. JMHO ...and I shoot a 300WMg now and will prolly aquire a short lite 308 or 270 sometime this month for just this purpose...check out the drop/energy tables to see what I am talking about.

I hunt with the Remington Sendero in 300 Win mag and the ammo I use is the Remington 150 gr corelokt and I've had no trouble from it. On accurcy, I have it shooting 2 inches high at 100 yds and I can put 5 bullets in the same hole every time. I've shot deer out to 350 yds and only had to hold about 3 to 4 inches over point of aim. The deer drop in it's tracks. Now that I've taken up re-loading, I'm looking at going to Swift 150 gr Scirrocco II as that's what I shoot from my .270 in 130 gr and have outstanding accuracy and knockdown power. The only other round I am going to try out of the .300 is the new Federal Fusion in 150 gr.

out of my 300 Winny I use 165gr SST or the XBT's and I get a good group at mid range as short also. I have been using this load for the past 9 years and have taken lots of deer, Hogs and Exotic's with it .

hey thanks everyone for your info. i have used the 180 tropby bonds and the 150 corlokt with backstrap success. i think we are going to try some of the winchester e3's in the 165 grain range. does anyone know about how these bullets work? they look like a lubbolox ballistic tip?. thanks in advance!
