I live about 40 miles north of Abilene, and there is a public lake here that is basically "forgotten". It runs dry about every four years because it's so shallow, but right now it holds water and is about five foot deep at the most, with 80% of it 2-3 feet deep and weedy.

I know a outfitter guieded there a while back, and I know there are ducks, because I've seen makeshift blinds on the bank and lost decoys floating around. They were not supposed to be hunting there, but they did.

I can get permission to hunt, however I have zero experience in duck hunting. I've killed everything that walks, and flys in my area, but not ducks.....so basically what I'm saying is take me duck hunting so I can learn the ropes, and I'll provide the quality hunting grounds.

Any takers?

Sounds like it may be ducky. Man all you need to hunt ducks is really a few decoys and a gun and a make shift blind. You don't always have to call to get em in. If they wanna land they will land and thats when you bust em. Calling just grabs attention, but for the most part if they see the dekes they are on a crash landing course anyways. LAter in the season its different. They have been shot at a few times and act like they are having anxiety attacks while landing, guess if you got shot at you would be the same way too lol. Anyways Good luck man Abilene's to far for me!

CTX3,

I might make a trip out there this year. Cody and Jasb have tanks to blast them off of in Abilene, as well.

I used to live in Abilene and went hunting at a public lake north of abilene about 30 to 40 miles. It was pretty good, but would have been really good if I could have hit the broad side of a barn. I enjoyed hunting and would like to go back but live to far a way to make it happen. Me and my friend just went out blind the first morning with no idea about anything and set up on the bank and had some success. So good luck it should be fun.

I'm west of 283, basically just take 180 west out of Albany about 35-40 miles. I'm in a town a little bit smaller than Albany called Hamlin. The lake is about five miles from my house.

Moose, just let me know man. I could probably go whenever since it's close to home for me.

Yes sir!

I'm employed by the same people, I don't work in the cattle feed division though.
