Has Gene Sears begun to get powders in? I only need a couple pounds but don't want to pay Hazmat just for that. I'm not in any emergency.

Buzz, they get in a shipment about every 2-3 weeks here lately. Some good shipments with the desirable powders, and some shipments with not much on it. Let me know what you need, and I can order it for you (if they have it) and pick it up for you. I see them every 2 weeks.

The only thing I need, and I don’t need it bad, is a pound of R17. I suppose I should start looking again.

R17 = Ricky Bobby powder! It's the only powder I will not use.

That cracks me up.

I don't care much for any of the RL powders but have used buckets of rl22 and rl25. It is a crack habit that is tough to break and I have scared myself before with rl22.

In defense of R17, I was unable to get 4350, but could get R17. Accuracy with the 120 gr Nosler BT in the 260 was terrific. I see no need to change. It’s not like I shoot extreme distances in varying weather conditions anyway, and I’m well below max. You’d think it would be easier to find, but I strongly suspect that a few other folks also like the powder.

Of course, it could be that the rifle is just so darn accurate (Chad had the Tikka set up for me) that it would shoot great with any decent powder. I have gone on and on about the rifle a few times, but geeez, it really is amazing.

Yes!! Reloaders see that you can get higher speeds with R17, and start loading it at the high side. Warmer temps cause that powder to be even hotter, and you start locking up bolts and blowing primers. It's a strong double base powder. But man, is it hot!

I can’t believe there’s a jug of H4350 there.

@rboyett33:. Thanks for the update. I was able to aquire some Retumbo today,. Southwest ammunition in Mesquite has a good quantity of powders. Retumbo, H1000, Varget, and at least 1 8lb container of H4350. Along with a good variety of several other sought after powders.

How are their prices these days? Ive been out there once and picked up Varget. Bought from them at gunshow several times. Hoping I am gonna get some free time in next year or so and prepping with supplies.

I would say that their pricing has been quite reasonable based on the market we're living in these days, most of the mid level powders are $35-$40, with the highly sought after and specialty powders $45-$48. primers are still higher than they should be, but within reason. bullets are about the same cost as anywhere online once you factor in shipping cost.

Thanks, may have to make a trip that way.
