Making a run to the water well. Need 100A service 160’ from the house.
What gauge wire do I need for the new breaker box?
Will run lights for a smoke house, lights for well house, and run a 1 1/2 hm pump motor. Will have a second pump running irrigation from a 3,000 gal storage tank. Haven’t specked that one out yet…

If you are wanting 100 amp at that distance I would go with minimum of #2

Ugly's Electrical reference book will provide you a huge amount of info. They may have an online version. I kept one in thr door of my work truck.
If the 2nd amendment was written just to include guns for hunting, why is there not an amendment to protect fishing poles?

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

FWIW I ran 130' of number 3 off of the 100 amp breaker to my gun shop. There is a 5hp lathe, 3 hp Bridgeport mill, grinders, 7hp air compressor, lights, various chargers and other devices, and a fridge. When I I get all that running, I measured a 1.12% Voltage drop.
My well house is on a 60 Amp, it runs the 3/4 HP submersible pump, 1 HP irrigation pump, lights, softener, and an electric heater in winter. I ran 60 feet of 6 on that one.

I told him #2 simply because he was pushing the boundary at the 160' and if he is going to buy the wire at home depot or another store like that he will likely have a lot more luck finding #2 there than #3.

You will never approach 100 amps with what you listed as a load save yourself some money drop to a 60 amp breaker and run number 6 wire at that distance and you will be fine .

Got an estimated 1,000’ of 2 AWG copper for $0.50/ft. Both rolls for $500! Corsicana McCoys is going out of business. Retail was $2.39/ft. They had it for 25% off or $1.59/ft. Told the guy I would take both rolls. He said if I buy what shows in his inventory he will let me have it for 50 cents ft. for an estimated 1,000 ft. Even if their inventory is off 50% that’s still only 75 cents per foot!

Needs to go in a conduit for burial, but a hell of a score! worth over $800 just for the copper weight!
