BucEes in Katy went down to $9.58 this morning. Was $9.98. Not a huge drop...but encouraging to see something actually go down in price for the first time in a while

That is extremely encouraging. I keep thinking that just staying at 9.98 is a good sign but going down is real good. Since their prices vary some by location, I always figured it was driven by local competition. It seems like towards S Tx the corn prices at Bucees can be cheaper than N Tx.

I’m about to go back up and ask if their pricing is based on acquisition cost or if they have a formula for reducing price based on inventory turns. Some places that function off high volume like BucEes will automate dynamic price decreases if the inventory starts to stale and I’m sure not many folks are loading up on it right now…but I’m certainly happy to see it drop some!! I do have to agree with you that I was happy enough to see it stagnate at $9.98 for 50# when there was talk not long ago about market pricing possibly getting to $15/bag

When the Bucees in Wharton first opened we noticed they had the cheapest price in the area. Then we asked and that time they said they would call the local feed stores to get their prices, so they could always be priced lower than them. But that was well over 10 years ago, so I don't know if they still practice that.

Also, corn is probably last years and quality is going down. More weevils.

To your point, when I bought my first round of close to 2,000 lbs from BucEes around Labor Day last year, there were a FK TON of weevils. Nothing mixing in some diatomaceous earth doesn’t cure…other than looking like I’d been hanging Sheetrock for a week straight it was all good

Weevils or brown bugs? Both are bad one is worse. Most of what you see in corn is brown bugs.

Duke how much DE do you put into your feeder to get rid of the weevils? Do you have to mix it in a little at a time or what? TYIA

When I had the batch full of weevils, I’d just toss in a handful every bag or so on my 500# feeder. The bag of DE from Tractor Supply lasted through 1200# of corn plus had some leftover 🤠

nice thing about weevils or brown bugs ... you can sure tell when your feeder goes off even from a long distance, looks like a talcum powder explosion around the feeder for a few seconds ... LOL

I had 1200# of corn in the back of my excursion when I noticed one full of weevils…tossed DE all over it for the 2.5 hour trip from Bucees in Katy to the lease. Buddy there helped me unload…we’d looked like we’d been hanging drywall all day between the DE and corn powder 😂

If you are hunting in the Comanche, Newberg, Proctor, Sidney area, be sure and check out PJ’s Corner Market located at 100 9th St in Comanche, Texas 76442. They carry 50# bags of Deer Corn, and several other items that you will like. If you need a pallet or more of corn, call ahead 254-979-1585 and they will get you taken care of.
