Funny thing about getting older: Your eyesight starts getting weaker but your ability to see through people's BS gets much better.

I look back at everyone that thought I was weird for prepping, I can't help but smile. I don’t think you are crazy at all. Seems more and more like I’m waiting for everything to crash. Maybe not a “total” crash, but things are already getting much harder to find. I had a new main a/c unit installed yesterday and they also got my generator all set up to the panel. I was pleasantly surprised the generator will run it and all of the small breakers in my house at the same time. It’s a good feeling.

1930’s US of A….1920’s Germany….many, many more over recent (less than 100 years) history….. And history repeats itself for those who fail to learn from it…. There will always be an economy….white or black markets exist despite the “government”….

I can see the economy getting a lot worse but not ceasing to exist. In the Great Depression it was real bad. A lot of people were hungry, broke, and out of work. The economy never ceased to exist though. It was just real bad. The crooked politicians and freaks in control of the nation in Washington refusing to admit the hardship their actions are heaping on the citizens footing the bill to fund their special interests lead me to expect things to continue to deteriorate in the near future.

No but nothing is absolute. I guess a big enough event could do it but it would do more than just destroy our economy. And the economy would be the least of our worries.

Yea but the people that went through the Great Depression aren’t cut from the same cloth of todays people. If it got back to Great Depression times there would probably 30% of the population dead in the first few months.

Jeez, no they wouldn’t be dead though some would struggle to put their phones down long enough to deal with the hardships that would face them. If the time ever comes young adults have to choose between their phone and eating is when they will get desperate. In some ways it might strengthen the country in the long run. In desperate times the cream rises to the top. If we keep headed down the path the country is on now I may be too old to see what the recovery looks like. In the cess pool we are living in now the crap has risen to the top.

In the cess pool we are living in now the crap has risen to the top. You’d be surprised. Most people don’t have more than 2 weeks food in their house. When the trucks stop running and groceries stop coming people will resort to crazy things. They’ll either die of hunger or they will die from being shot because they’re trying steal food.

The movie Too Big To Fail was supposed to be pretty accurate. We were days from the financial system shutting down. How long it would have been down....who knows.
When the financial system, as in banks, shut down, everything shuts down. Credit/debit cards won't work if the banks are closed. All the stores, gas stations, etc. will be closed until the banks reopen.
Like said above, most people don't have more than two weeks worth of food. What if LEOs, fire fighters, power company employees, municipal water company employees all go home to protect their homes and families?
Hopefully the banks will be able to reopen quickly. However, if the five or so biggest banks with mega Trillions in derivatives exposure blow up how can they reopen quickly? In the meantime it could be rough.

I chose yes. Cease to exist? Yeah there's a scenario where that could happen...but highly, highly unlikely. It could get really bad, but I don't even see that happening. Most likely scenario is that we have another recession not unlike the late 70s/early 80s.

Most likely scenario is that we have another recession not unlike the late 70s/early 80s. But if we used the same numbers from the 70’s we’d be at around 16-17% inflation and it’s no where close to being Done. I think we’ll hit realistically 22-23% inflation before it’s all said and done. Billions of dollars will be lost from retirements and pensions. The rich will continue to get rich, the middle class will cease to exist and it’ll be poor class and rich class. All of us peasants will be eating crickets while the rich gorge themselves on steaks which is really ironic since they want to outlaw beef because they release too much O2 into the air and causing climate change.

I thought is was CH4. Now we are worried about cows breathing? No it’s because they’re farting. Too much methane being released.
