Hello All! I'm new to the board! This question has probably been asked and answered many times but I would like to ask again.
I would like to dove hunt around the Katy area, but I'm not locked in to that area, I'll be traveling from Pearland and really don't want to drive all they way to Hondo, with in an hour of Houston is my preference. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Unless you are personal friends with the outfitter, I wouldn't take a chance on a katy hunt. Might have birds opening day then it gets REAL slow around most of that area.

Isn't there some decent dove hunting in the El Campo area?

In 2005 there were lots of land and small operations in the Katy/Brookshire area and the dove hunting was great. Now that Houston encroached into katy much of those areas are practically obsolete and I know travel to Lytle, TX for my dove hunts.

El Campo is becoming less of a sure thing like it used to be. Fly by night outfitters with over-crowded and unsafe conditions. I think the birds are getting conditioned to all the pressure there. Last year was the the last year for me in El Campo.

I feel extremely lucky and blessed all at the same time. 20 years ago we met a rancher from Freer, Texas. My family leased all 2700 acres and the lodge for $250 a head. It is basically a family reunion for us. We have had some absolute barrel burner shoots and some years not so hot action. That is how the hunting cooking crumbles. There is a bonus that goes with it as well. The landowner and I are both extremely avid arrowhead hunters. My wife and I always find a few when I am dove hunting. I also return in the spring with a group of 10 people and the whole weekend is centered around hunting points, same price. We average around 70 to 75 points or artifacts every year.

I think all of the development has altered the flight paths of all migratory birds. I would go west at least to Sealy if not Columbus.
