I think the Hides will be ok.....especially if they have been hanging out at higher elevations. This ranch has elevations of up to 13k so i think if they have been hanging out in the high country hides should be ok.

They do their buffalo hunts in August and September so I got the latest hunt possible to get a better hide.....I'm on the fence yet if I'm going to shoulder mount it or not, but If i don't I'm having the whole hide tanned

I’m using my Elite compound, which is shooting a 433 grain black eagle rampage at 277 fps. Broadhead on this trip is a 100 grain kudu single bevel point.

I fully expect to have to shoot the Bull with more than one arrow, but I’m hoping to get him down fast.

I am pretty much at max capacity now for the space Ive allotted for mounts. I’ve got two shoulder mounts ( one from a mediocre axis I killed when I was 20 and one hill country deer my wife killed) that I could move to the ranch house and that may free up some room but don’t know if it will be enough to accommodate a Buffalo without re-arraigning the entire room and I really don’t want to do that.

After my vendetta ride is over in the next few years I don’t know how many more mounts I’ll get until I move

Guys kill them with selfbows shooting stone points and kill them with one arrow. Just put it in the right place the first time and it will go down.

Lots of factors to consider. This is a free range hunt in natural conditions so you have to account for the herd pushing them when an other wise solitary animal you can hit and let bleed out. I’ll keep putting arrows in him as long as he is on his feet.

Could turn into a real rodeo

A real rodeo if the herd guards it to protect their fallen member like I have read about and seen on some videos.

Good luck on the hunt, sounds like it could be a blast.

Nearest I came to a buffalo hunt was in 97 on my first elk hunt in Montana. The land owner said if we see a buffalo to kill it. One was on the ranch south of us headed north at last sighting, when that old bull got to a fence he just went through it per that ranch owner.

It’s typical for herd animals to try and get a fallen member you on their feet. If this happens it can push an other wise dead animal quite a ways.

Another thing they do is attack the fallen member. Strange but they will do it. Seen it with Turkey and javelinas.

That action with Turkeys has caused quite a few to die in the past and probably will in the future. Get several gobblers in and shoot the strutter/boss and the others want to kick him while he is down. Turkey have never been an intelligent creatures but they are wary as anything out there (all predators like a tryptophan nap) most of the time with great vision and hearing.

I started my bow season a week early. I thought bow season started on the 10th but it actually starts this coming Saturday. Glad I didn’t shoot that doe because I was a week early!

The funny thing is there were probably 3 or 4 trucks that flew past me walking out. They really lit it up when the sun came up, rifles and shotguns. Not sure what they were hunting but definitely a fair mix of rifle and shotgun fire all around, really surprised me. And from the neighboring private property I am pretty sure they were shooting a .22.

Even had some shotgun pellets dropping in on my blind so I am gonna assume some of them were shooting doves.

Other than that it was a really nice day. I found a big group of otters on the river, watching all the critters moving around it was a great day lol. Learned something new, otter poop scaly I guess all those fish scales. Looks almost like glitter in it.

Also was sort of busted by a doe. I could not see her but she saw me and was blowing at me hard, repeatedly.

Almost got a shot at one but she busted me trying to get closer. Thank God!

Had an incident fishing and hurt my wrist, so the new PSE I got last year won't be seeing any field time this year. Went and picked up a crossbow to use this bow season instead.

Good luck with the crossbow Safarigene, it is still hunting and getting out there. I guess I will be taking crossbow this season, not much time to practice before this Friday when I can hunt for a few days.

Season starts in 2 1/2 weeks.

Excited to get a few sits in early.

As last year plan to do most of my whitetail hunting with a stick bow but may break out the compound for some culling work
