Is there a fee or sales tax due to transfer an automotive title in Texas from one person to another in the same family? For example, husband <-> wife or husband and wife to their trust? The vehicle is not being sold?

Thanks.

only $10 'gift tax' - but you have to fill out Form 14-317 which has to be Notarized! https://www.txdmv.gov/sites/default/files/form_files/14-317.pdf

I am think that I also paid a small title transfer fee. One of the few forms that needs to be notarized.

Its the form that just states you swear under penalty that you are related to avoid sales tax. my wife had to do this when her grandmother gave her a car.

This is a good way to take care of your kids transportation needs, when they are ready for driving in HS or College.

I drove my commute care (Ford Escort ZX2) for work for 300K, then gave to granddaughter for 50K, and she transferred to my grandson for another 50K. The latest grandkid is driving it now, and has slightly over 400K on it. Each transfer was just $10 here in Idaho

$35.50 title transfer fee. And make sure you have a current inspection done in the last 120 days.

A transfer between spouses of a motor vehicle that is community property, for which Texas motor vehicle tax has already been paid, is not subject to either gift tax or motor vehicle tax.

Just did this on my mother's old truck. Title transfer app, gift tax form notarized, proof of insurance, and no inspection needed as the current registration sticker was still up to date.

Most county tax offices require you to schedule an appointment for title transfers. FYI
