to read. With this heat I have been reading about four hours a day and need to go to the library to get some new ones to read. Any suggestions on something that is not too heavy reading.

Just finished one and started another, really good reads.
1. Against All Odds, by Alex Kershaw- great book about heroism and the toll it takes
2. Fighter Pilot, the memoirs of Robin Olds- by his daughter
Well worth the read

Anything by Robert B Parker. Lots of them are series so be careful to start at the beginning(although they can stand alone). I would suggest his series on Cole and Hitch.

Billy Summers by Stephen King. Not his usual super natural work. I really enjoyed it.

My all time #1:The Whisper of the River by Ferol Sams. #2: The House of God, (no, not a religious book), by Samuel Shem. If you really want to spend some time, the In Death series of murder mysteries by J.D. Robb are great, I recently finished #50.

My two favorites are
Unintended consequences by John Ross. You won't find it at a library.
Night angel trilogy by Brent weeks
A lighter read that's really good is October sky/ rocket boys by homer Hickham

Walden; or, Life in the Woods. Old but it’s always been one of my favorites.

Since this is a hunting forum, try "Death in the Long Grass," by Peter Hathaway Capstick. If it don't give you the urge to load up and go on an African safari, nothing will.

Plainsong, by Kent Haruf. Or anything else by him. Just books about simple, real, small-town life on the plains, but very easy reading. He could really write. He's passed now. 'Taught at the University of Kansas, or Kansas State I believe. I've read all of Capstick. Great writer. Roundly considered a fraud among a lot of African PHs.

Some good old timers - the Travis McGee Series by John D. MacDonald.

I like the Blanco County mysteries by Ben Rehder.

If you like books about Texas in the early days, try. "Now You Hear My Horn". By James Wilson Nichols. A bit hard to find but pretty interesting.

I’ve read all but one of Keltons books. Probably the most realistic writer of early Texas I’ve read. I think “The time it never rained” is a dang good, but heartbreaking, chronicle of the dependency of farmers and ranchers on life giving rain.
Without a sense of urgency, nothing ever happens.
Boy, if I say "sic em", you'd better look for something to bite. Sam Shelley, Rancher Muleshoe Texas 1892-1985 RIP
