has anybody hunted Matagorda Island WMA where they have to take you to your assigned spot? just wondering how well this works or the time it takes to get to your spot having to be chauffeured by TPW staff. I also cant find any map on TPWD park or hunt website to show actual ponds they drop you off on, most of everything there looks accessible by boat which you dont need to check in for or get a day use permit for.

Assume you're hunting the ponds inshore on the island?? I've hunted the white tail deer hunt on this island, and it's the same roads and pickups and park rangers dropping off duck hunters I would assume. Shortest ride is about 10 mins and longest is nearly an hour to other side of the island. Hard wooden seat in the back of a pickup bed so bring a cushion. On the plus side I saw a lot of various waterfowl when I was deer hunting. I'd have good waders you can hike a ways in, and hope you're not scared of rattle snakes or gators, because the island is covered with them. Try calling Dan at the refuge at (361) 205-1510.
