I am hearing the lines are 20-30 trailers long for people wanting to sell cattle. Several people have called me looking for hay. I quit selling my extra hay a couple months ago. We need some rain bad.

Emory was more like a mile long on Saturday. We are in bad shape in my area of VZ county.
Edit: Just talked to a buddy - Emory ran until nearly 3AM and trucks were lined up for nearly a mile in EACH direction.
Wills Point was extremely busy - but not on that level.

Gonna be a rough year. Didn't get spring rains at the right time, so my cattle in the back are already out of grass- having to open parts of my hayfields to them just to keep them fed. Probably only going to get one good cutting of hay this year, and sparse too; will have to probably keep it all (normally sell half) to get my cattle thru winter. There's a year+ long wait to schedule any cattle for slaughter/processing at local places too.
If it's like this for me, I can't imagine what it's like for folks in dryer part of state, and w/drought.

^^^^^^^^^ Good grief ........ 527 sellers and 3500 head. I wonder how many buyers there were.

I know in Coleman County I'd be in bad shape if I had any cattle at present, no grass, no water, and not much hope of getting either before Oct/Nov.

Decatur had 2700 head on the yard yesterday. Sell outs & sell off's = tough couple years ahead.

I sold at the emory sale Saturday. Dropped off on Thursday though. Haven't even picked up my check yet, I know its going to be low. Have to load up and take to the sale again this week or next week. Its ugly. Even the bitter sneeze weed is dying in the pastures. There.is nothing for them to eat. I usually only sale calves. My cows are more like pets that I keep for their lifetime, I hate selling any of them. But, there isn't much choice right now.

It's tough times here on the ranch. I've been around a while, I've seen this before but never have the inputs been so high. Gonna separate the men from the boys this time!

Market will flip but it was good up until the last week in June. Many were closed last week. I hauled more this morning to Waurika and will find out tomorrow what they bring.

We’re getting $100/roll for premium 4x5 sudan right in the field.. Going to have to rely on corn stubble to get our own herd through the winter.
I really hate to do what I am about to do, because it will be very painful for you.

My neighbor only has 7 head, been buying hay since last fall, said he got some 5x5 rnds for $60 last week, no way it is quality grass, barely filler.
A long time friend of mine raises quality hay, spent 16k on one fertilizer round (doesn't count the irrigation cost), selling to a dealer for $120 in the field.
Been thinking about getting a couple long bred cows, but haven't stepped back in it yet, like having a boat right now.

I got hay, bought it early. I'm worried about water, got 14 ponds on the ranch, 4 are dried up, 5 are extremely low, 4 are low and the biggest is low and too salty. Going to be selling calves in August and culling some older cows.
Dozer guy coming the end of the month to start cleaning out and enlarging ponds.

We’ve got a dozer coming next week. All tanks but 1 are dry, can’t let anything near it bc of the silt. Pretty bad out here
