Well state population is growing and instead of expanding with big extra capacity nuclear or NG we are using solar and wind. It’s stupid until you have ability to store atleast 5 days of total power usage

Have three different wind farms within 30 minutes of my house, each one having at least 300 1.5 mg. turbines in them. between 4 and 6pm today none of them had 20% of turbines running and all locations had 9-14mph winds with gust to 24 and there are no constraints on transmission lines to get this electricity out of west Texas to the areas needing it. Somethings don't add up.

What wind speed does it take to run a wind turbine?

When we drove through Mart this morning, that wind farm had no turbines turning. Coming back through about 1:30 maybe a third were turning.

Just guessing, if they had plants running and were meeting demand they may leave the wind turbines offline unless needed. Watched the ERCOT dashboard and capacity stayed ahead of demand, wind energy picked up some slack late afternoon.

Just remember you can’t store the excess energy, that’s probably why they weren’t all running.

what doesn't add up to me is they push green energy yet it is running at <20% and brought in at peak times , I would think you ran them at 80% and ramped up power plants as green couldn't keep up.

It's interesting to watch this as the day goes on, at least solar is predictable on days like this. Wind obviously tracks the wind forecast throughout the day. The old standby fossil fuel and nukes carry the load.
