Does anyone know or heard rumors about any new calibers coming out this year?

I havent heard of any, and I think it would be foolish on the part of gun makers to try and develop a new cartrige in a down economy! Research and development aint cheap!!

I'm sure Hornady is going to keep reinventing the wheel with cartridges based off their 375 Ruger and the Ruger Compact Magnums. None of them do anything that other, older cartridges don't already do at least as good if not better, but that hasn't stopped them in the past.

I think you're talking about the GMX bullet Rowney. It's a non-toxic bullet made entirely out of the gilding metal that all lead core bullets are jacketed in.
The reviews I read about it during my morning "office" visits are very good though.

yes sir, that would be it. I have heard that it will not come apart, no matter what. Interested to try it to say the least.

I'm working on a 22x50 super lightedspeeded ultrafantastic magnum. I haven't got the kinks out yet, but it should be soon. The idea is a necked down 50 cal case that shoots a 45 grain bullet at nearly the speed of light. I'll let you know when its finished.

Now if you can get it to travel back in time upon firing I might be interested in loading it. You might want to bump it up to a .700 T-Rex or even a 20 mm anit-tank casing necked down to .17. That ought to take care of the speed of light issue... The only new cartridge I see a need for is one for compact semi-auto rifles. I'm looking for something in the 460 S&W performance range that could be fired out of an M1 Carbine style platform. Obviously the action would have to be re-designed and reinforced, but it would be neat to have 20 rounds of something that could take any critter in the continental US down at your disposal... I know, you can get ar's in 50 beowoulf, 6.8 SPC, and you can get the SOCOMII, but how about something around $500...?

Funny you mentioned this since I was just reading an article about a cartridge that is similar to what you are talking about. P.O. Ackley developed the 22 Eargesplitten Loudenboomer which was a 378 Weatherby necked down to 22 caliber. The funny thing is that he was only able to get 5,000 FPS, which is fast but not really that impressive when you consider the velocities of a 220 Swift, which probably burns about 1/5 of the powder. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.22_Eargesplitten_Loudenboomer
