I have had several wells dug over the years. A lot of it depends on where you are. I suggest finding someone who digs wells and getting their advice. Also if neighbors have wells ask them who drilled theirs. Cost depends on depth that has to be drilled, size of the pump, etc. We have a 2000 gallon holding tank that the water is pumped into and allows any sulfur smell to dissipate - I had the water tested since we use the well water for our drinking water - test came back with excellent water. Again find someone who does it for a living to advise you - good luck

I've gotten two quotes this year for Mills county, both were over $25,000 for ~450' solar well. That includes everything except the holding tanks.

I found this website useful when was researching existing wells on my place. It wont give you the current price but should let you know depth and water in the area.

I initially picked the wrong driller. He did three holes. It only got about, he said, 1/10 gpm. I paid him and gave up. Later I went to a commercial plumbing supply to get some large PVC pipe for a pond overflow. I mentioned to the owner my well drilling woes. He said that was nuts and that 1/10 was for 24 hrs per day. And, most likely it would improve. I could pump that into a large tank and, after it filled, wouldn’t have a problem.

I looked around and found a different driller. He did it, hooked everything up and, after a couple of weeks, I was in business. Never had a problem. BTW, that aquifer was at 65 ft. And my tank is 2,500 gallons.

Without a sense of urgency, nothing ever happens.

Boy, if I say "sic em", you'd better look for something to bite. Sam Shelley, Rancher Muleshoe Texas 1892-1985 RIP
