My son and I went scouting this evening on Barney Lake WMA looking for teal, dove, hogs, and deer. One thing really unusual that I noticed is the absence of fire ants and it seems the tick has taken it's place. I've hunted here for almost 5 years and never had a problem with ticks. I took 3 of them off of me this evening.

Interesting........I have noticed zero fire ants around here this year. Wondered if I was imagining things.

We didn't see anything at all but from the hog sign that we saw it looks like there will be a bumper crop of them this year. I killed one with my bow last Thursday over at a friends place already.

ticks are the devil, and I'm not sorry to hear the fire ants are low this year

I noticed ticks at the deer lease too. We usually don't have them. Hopefully we will get some cold weather to kill them. Wouldn't mind it killing the mosquitoes too. We've got a good crop of them down here.

Our lease has a million ticks on it this year as well! And the chiggers are unbelievable!
The fire ants must have migrated to my back yard, because I can't seem to get rid of them!!

Hummmm I talk with the COE last week about the fire ants being gone, they hadn't noticed this until we talked, now the Sam Raburn office has done a little research and noticed most of them are gone?? Nobody know where or why yet.
Ticks haven't been to bad around here, but it still early and hot.

Fire ants are definetly way less this year. I usually have to spend the summer chasing fire ant hills around my yard. Not this year. Just a few in my flower beds!

My dogs keep bringing them in from the back yard... don't forget the DEET!!!
Wasn't born in Texas, but I got there as fast as I could.

I had tons of fire ants in my yard, then they completely disappeared, around the time July was getting really hot I think.

Did some blind work this week-end and killed a three foot cotton mouth that was inside. Lots of critters around remaining tanks due to no water in central TX.
