Greetings all. I recently got an SR25 parts rifle in 6.5CM. I'm wanting to swap to .308 as well as upgrade a few internal and external parts. My goal is a "lightweight" 16-18" carbine of quality and reliable components good enough to hunt at 200yd or so.

Here's what I'm starting with: Wilson Combat upper/lower, unknown parts kit, buffer tube and BCG. The free-float rail does not fit the WC upper receiver. I will also need a .308 barrel.

I'm almost sold on the WC free float rail/barrel nut. I will need a barrel also. Not sure if I should use the BCG or keep it as a spare. Also not sure of the buffer tube, buffer and spring.

The goal is to have about an excellent rifle within the SR25 with the components I have and what needs to be added/improved.

Thank you for all comments.

Weigh the buffer, verify the spring, plenty of links that will help you identify the spring.

Rebuild the BCG with an enhanced extractor kit, clean and verify the ejector function.

I really like the Wilson upper, it is a little robust and you may be stuck with the Wilson handguard.

Your barrel will need to match your BCG depending on which style, DPMS or Armalite.

That said, get the fastest twist barrel you can.

Regardless, there are very few lightweight large frame ARs, they are heavy and without spending a fortune, hard to build.

You're definitely on track with the Wilson Combat upper and lower... I would suggest the 18" Tactical Hunter Barrel and rail, and one of their BCG's, then you need a Buffer, I would suggest the KAK 5.3 oz buffer and a suitable spring.. you should end up around 7.5 fo 8 lbs for your basic rifle, then choose your scope and mount wisely.. Don't be surprised if you end up with some functional issues.. we can talk you through getting your gun up and running.. Wilson's barrel is 11.25 to 1 twist I believe,, so let us know.

oh, and don't forget the lube, 308 AR's need to be run wet, wet, wet,, don't matter what people will tell you,, the big AR likes lots of lube

Thanks for the info Billymagg. For barrels, I'm looking at the WC 16" Ranger and the 18" Tactical Hunter. At the moment, I own no can's; so not sure if I need an adjustable gas block. WC handguard for certain. Haven't even considered the muzzle device. I've been liking the Aero 30mm mounts, they are light and haven't failed me yet. I was considering the SWFA 3-9HD, but it is a bit large and heavy for what it is. I might even look at a 1-6or8 LPVO. The stock will likely be PRS Lite or STR. I will also upgrade the trigger, maybe a LaRue MBT. From what I know, it is a working 6.5CM build, but I'm not using my dwindling supply to find out. Perhaps I'll be good with the BCG, buffer and spring. If I have to replace or decide to upgrade the BCG, I'll probably go WC low mass. I may even pay for a professional finish job. I'd like to build something my family would appreciate handing down.

Get what you want for an optic but the SWFA 3-9 is only 19 oz. Most LPVOs are in that range or heavier.
