Joined a new lease this year where there is running water at a main camp area, but not at our side camp where we have our trailer. There IS electrical service on site, but no running water.



So, we bought a water trailer fully equipped with 2-275 gallon tanks and added a 3 gpm Flojet automatic pump, 2 marine covers, and a few hoses. We plumbed the two tanks with a shut off valve on the left tank, so water can be drained from one tank before using water from the other. When the tanks get near empty, you simply disconnect the flexible hose, and haul the tank to main camp and refill.



We installed the pump in one of the marine shells, and a 12 volt car battery in the other. The pump is wired with alligator clips that can be easily connected to the car battery.



Overall, we like the setup. To avoid algae/bacteria growth in the clear tanks, we add 1 cup of bleach to each tank every month or so. The 3 gpm pump gives us plenty of water pressure, and the pump is really quiet (especially since it's located in a marine shell).

We are hoping the tanks are large enough not to freeze solid during the winter. I think it would take a really deep freeze for 2-3 days in a row for the tanks to freeze up.

I just wanted to post our setup for others out there who are looking at doing something similar.

Do you use a marine battery and how often do you have to recharge it?

Add a 12volt solar charger to the battery and a koi fish pond heater in at least one of the tanks and you are set!!!
Of course the way the weather is in Texas, 60 in the day/30 at night, I'm not sure that it would freeze anyway.

I would be less concerned with the tanks freezing than I would the water in the PVC pipes freezing.

Can't tell from your pictures but if you don't already have a way to drain them install a dump valve at the lowest spot in the plumbing.

Good ideas! The battery isn't a marine battery, just a normal ol' car battery. What kind of 12v charger would work? The same kind used for feeders?

Tbar: yes, the way we'll drain the system is to shut off the water before the pump, then run the faucets in the trailer. There's a dump valve under the hot water heater inside to drain the trailer. Then, we can disconnect the hose, and we're all set.

I was referring to the the pvc pipes between the tanks and the pump.

On the batteries, we used two deep cycling marine batteries wire up in parallel to double the run time. During the "non hunting" daylight time we would run a 12 volt charger with a small and very quiet 1000 watt Honda generator.

Or you could charge them up with jumper cables of off your truck every few days.

I would just keep a solar charger on the battery. I am pretty sure that would do it.

Good set up but that PVC is going to need some serious insulation for winter. We have a very similar situation at our place in Junction. We have actually had the 300 gallon tanks freeze solid.
