While I was walking the mutt the other day I noticed there were no Honey Bees in a very large area of flowering clover. When I was a kid there would be so many bees in flowering clover you could hear the buzzing sound from their wings flapping, there would also be some Bumble Bees too which I have not seen in a very long time.
So what are some of the things you do not see anymore?

See honeybees all the time here, plus lots of toads and can hear the frogs in the pond every evening and night. Quail is what I haven’t seen in years, fear the fire ants got them.

When I was a kid there were so many species of birds. And a lot of each species. Now, not so much. Some I have not seen in years.

My red ants have made a surprising comeback against the fire ants. Several acres are now controlled by the red ants and the fire ants are gone from there. The armadillos have also started destroying fire ant mounds and kill every one of them in the mound. Just nature working things out. If you’re worried about the European honey bees don’t. There are over 5000 different bee species that naturally occur in Texas. That’s how pollination occurred before the European settlement of the country.

Lighting bugs/Fire flies (a few, but nothing like when I was a kid). The Milky Way (light pollution). A person that can actually listen to another human being (dam few these days).

You guy covered most of my thoughts, horny toads, lightening bugs and the big red ants. Last year I never had a bird at our feeder when the previous 18 years they would fight for a spot and emptied it weekly. I never refilled it. I though maybe the February deep freeze took a toll on them. The neighborhood cats kill any that make a nest.

They seem to be cyclical, as far as I can tell. I’ll see them all over for awhile, then nothing for awhile. Then they’re back. When I was much younger, I forced the toads to haul sand for me in my Tonka trucks. They were clearly opposed to it, but what could they do about it? As time went on, there was a serious labor shortage. Eventually, I had to run the trucks myself. That didn’t last long. I gave up on the sand hauling venture, and wouldn’t you know it, the toads came back. Now I know what they could do about it.

As a kid, I sent a toad up in a model rocket that had a clear tube for cargo. Bad idea for all involved.

I've been preaching to my neighbors to leave the red ants alone. We have a couple of colonies in the back yard and the adjacent lot....Zero fire ants. Front yard is not so lucky yet. I'm using mound applied insecticides on the fire ants in the front, so the red ants to get any back to their mounds. One of the problems is trying to control grubs lawn grass without killing off the red ants.
We all need to practice Whoa more.

One of the problems is trying to control grubs lawn grass without killing off the red ants. Scoop up a fire ant mound with a round shovel, run like crazy and dump it on another fire ant mound. They will all fight to the death in 1 day. Both mounds gone.

I was going to say rain, but heck it's raining today. Thank you Lord!

Which leads to my theorem that Sid, in Toy Story, is actually the "normal" kid. Why does Andy have a Bo Peep doll? But I digress.
