They aren’t paying taxes on the land that they’ve acquired.

It was a cluster [censored] from day 1 and something unnecessary. Just a way to siphon tax dollars to friends.

Yeah, it’s always had a bad smell about it to me, kind of like all the toll roads in Texas.

I don’t know enough about it, but that article sure paints the rail company in a bad, bad light. If those facts are even 60-70% true, shut it the hell down.

I hate toll roads. We need to start charging EVs a road use tax and get rid of them.

Need a new law. If they take your land by ED, YOU get to choose whether they buy it or lease it. If they lease it, you get a lease of your choice (30-50-100 yrs) and they have to pay you every bit of profit they make on it for the duration of the lease.

Ain't it the truth. !!
Right along with toll roads. (which, should be illegal in Texas)..
I certainly don't remember, any outcry from Texans asking for any of this.!!
But I do remember the outcry against it... Yet, they just keep shoving it down
our throat. Kinda makes ya wonder why. Don't it ??
And if you think, this boondoggle is not gonna be supported, by tax payer dollars.
I got some ocean front property in Amarillo to sell ya..
We don't need it !!.. We don't want it.!! NO .NO. NO..!!
Leave us alone.!!

It is the new way for politicians to make money. Billion dollar contracts make for million dollar pay checks.

This is 100% correct.
A few billionaires and politicians getting richer.
All this will fall in the tax payers laps.
There’s no way it can pay for itself especially during a pandemic.

Same with the Commifornia high speed rail. It's a train to nowhere and the project is broke.
Filling the pockets of only a few.

I agree that this is going to make a few folks rich, or should I say richer. And there still won't be a rail line completed.
What get's me is why can't the US build a dang high speed rail system! The UK has them, so does France and even Russia along with a whole bunch of other countries. Is the Unites States Political System so dang corrupt that we can't do it?

I looked up what countries have high speed rail systems.
"Austria, Belgium, China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Poland, Portugal, Russia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, Turkey, and United Kingdom."

But.
If they were going to take your land away to build it, would you still be for it?

Several reasons for that. The US is more car centric than those other countries. It also lacks the train/subway infrastructure in the larger cities to get you around once you get there. Throw in suburban sprawl, and you would end up with a bunch of train lines that connect to major cities where you can't get anywhere once you arrive. For some reason, I also thought a lot of the maintenance on the US railways was paid for by the railway operators themselves. In order to do high-speed rail, you would have to do a major overhaul on the existing tracks and no one wants to pay for that.

Thanks,
Rich

No more so than when they too land to build our interstate highway system. Can you imagine travel without our interstates? Just imagine all of the I-10 traffic on HY-90, or all of I-20 traveling down HY-80.

Your kinda overlooking the obvious.. We needed the interstate system for defense.
That's why it was built..
We do not need a boondoggle bullet train. Nor have we ask for it..
No comparison....
And this train, is a private venture. But, I promise. It won't stay that way.

gtrich94...
You cannot use the existing tracks. They are different gauge.
Nor or they rated, for the speed of a bullet train.

We once had a visionary for governor who had a plan called the I35 Corridor. This is a remnant of that.
