I have a 1997 Dodge 2500 that I would like to have a mechanic look over and make sure everything is good to go. This truck was my grandfathers and I want to keep it around the farm but want to make sure there is nothing major that needs to be addressed before I start hauling livestock with it.

Not looking for a performance shop just some one that will give it to me straight and not take us to the cleaners.

I would like to stay in Dallas to Tyler area if possible

Those old 12 valve Cummins were almost bulletproof !
I wish I had my ‘97 back.
As long as it doesn’t have a lot of blowback I would just make sure to keep the oil changed and replace all filters and you should be good to go.
I would have the transmission serviced if you’re going to be doing a lot of pulling.
And the dreaded AC blend door will probably cause problems.
Other than that you should have a good truck.

Not sure your exact route but Red River Auto off 380 between Princeton and McKinney does a lot of diesel work and they are great folks.
