I went to fill up at the local station and paying at the pump I could only get $75 or 16 gallons per transaction. My truck has a 50 gallon tank plus a 45 gallon auxiliary tank in the bed so it would take me five transactions to fill up. I get my situation is a bit unique but 16 gallons isn’t going to fill up many full size vehicles. I wonder how much revenue the establishment loses from people just thinking oh well 16 gallons will get me by and leaving?
The cashier told me it isn’t us it is an issue with your credit card. No, no it’s not. I travel a ton and some stations the same card will let me get $100, $125, $150, and I even got over $250 at one station.
The pay at the pump should allow you get at least 50 gallons regardless of the price per gallon.

I'm told the station attendant can remove the limit if you request it. I have not tried it though.

It irritates me and I act like a child and refuse to put my card in again.

Our Murphey USA here in Temple limits the fill up to $100. The attendant said the same thing and that it was my card. No maam...that's not the case. Other stations don't do it.

I have gone inside and just handed them the card and said I want to fill up and that works but that means going inside and waiting in line to get to the counter. Also what if the inside isn’t even open? The store closest to me is only open 7AM to 7PM. Many times I am getting fuel paying at the pump when the store isn’t open.
I really don’t understand it. They say they reasoning is to limit their fraud liability or risk. What difference does it make to anyone involved if a card is swiped once for $150 or two separate times for $75 each? I

Sign on the pumps at Brookshires in Cisco said they were working on upping the limits so no it's not the credit card company.

I’ve found that some pumps won’t take my Amex card. Have to whoop out the Visa then.

It's the credit card limit the gas station has set up. It's not about a gallon limit. "The credit card companies recommend that fuel stations set their authorization limits to the liability limit for the card brand. That way, the merchant is protected from any chargebacks. The merchant determines the amount of the authorization hold, but the customer’s bank determines how long the hold stays on the card." https://financialfuelservices.com/what-you-need-to-know-about-credit-card-limits-at-gas-pumps/

I was filling my diesel at Krogers and saw a sign that said there is a $125 limit. When the pump rolled beyond $90 I thought to myself "they might need to revise their limits".

Don't know if it was the station I went to yesterday or using my Scheel's card but I actually got to fill up my whole tank instead of stopping at $100. I'll be doing that combo more frequently

The pay at the pump should allow you get at least 50 gallons regardless of the price per gallon. Yup They are FOS when they tell you this! If I need to fill diesel and know it is going to be $100 plus I just go into the store and give them my cc to run and tell them to run it for 125 or 150 and then go fill up. If I told them 125 and it only takes 115 I've never been charged more than what I put in. I do agree that this is absolutely BS and when you use a CC it should NOT cut off until you shut if off!!!

Yeah, they shut off at $100.00 here. WalMart Del Rio does that, but you can shove the card right back in and keep pumping.

Its frustrating and I had been just giving up and leaving with what was in the tank. Most companies however are charged a percentage I believe to use credit services so I plan to put my card back in every time to have them charged every time this happens.

I hope it is not the credit card, you would be screwed if traveling.

Last time I could only get $99 at Racetrac - this morning I could get $125. Still didn't fill me up, but better.

Most companies however are charged a percentage I believe to use credit services so I plan to put my card back in every time to have them charged every time this happens. The charge to the merchant is a percentage. It doesn't make any difference how many times you put it in, the merchant is charged the same. 20% of $150 is $3.00 if you do it once or three times. You may have gas pumps and hookers confused.
